7 vie for Fair Royalty
This year there are 7 young ladies competing for spots on the 2019 Idaho County Fair Royalty, the most in several years.
They are Ciara Chaffee, Anna Kaschmitter and Halle Klapprich of Cottonwood and Madison Adams, Naomi Connolley, Clarissa Stevens and Grace VanGunten of Grangeville.
The girls will be judged at the Royalty Luncheon which is set for next Wednesday, July 25 at the Church of the Nazarene in Grangeville.
Following are write-ups for each candidate from their application forms. Some of the girls were a lot wordier than others.
Ciara Chaffee
Ciara Elizabeth Chaffee is the 16 year old daughter of Kevin and Shari Chaffee of Cottonwood.
She will be a junior at Prairie High School this fall.
Youth organizations she belongs to include Girl Scouts for the past 10 ½ years, Prairie League and Future Health Professionals (formerly HOSA) at Prairie High School. She also participates in crosscountry, track and girls basketball at PHS.
Past Fair involvement includes membership in the Keuterville Livestock 4-H Club for 8 years, ever since Cloverbud level. During her years in 4-H she entered a rabbit project and the table setting contest. She also took baking, cooking, cake decorating and now candy making. Along with those projects she has taken part in the Making the Most of Me program since the Setting the Stage level, earning several top project awards and one top model award. She also won the Friends of 4-H luggage set for one of those top awards. She has also been part of the Fashion Board for the past 2 years. The Board helps get the stage ready and helps the younger girls with their modeling. She has also entered many open class projects over the years.
For employment she babysits for her neighbors and other families and mows her grandma’s and neighbors’ lawns. She has also taken care of people’s garden and pets and has cleaned house for elderly family and friends.
She loves going for runs, hanging out with friends and family, camping, hunting, fishing, swimming, painting, crafts, gardening, cooking and baking with her mom.
After high school she plans to attend college somewhere in Idaho and study to become a physical therapist. She also hopes to run cross country and/or track in college.
3 life goals are: 1) attend college to become a physical therapist and make a living. 2) run cross country and/or track in college. 3) get married and raise a family some day.
She feels her strongest personal quality is her determination. She feels she can do anything she wants if she just puts her mind to it. She says she has wanted to be a part of royalty since she was a little girls and is now determined to follow through and try her hardest to do so.
She says her family is the most important thing in her life because she wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them. They support her in everything she does from going to sporting events to encouraging her to run for royalty.
Her family includes her parents, Kevin and Shari, who have been married for over 28 years. He has worked for the Forest Service for 33 years and enjoys every minute. Her mom is a stay at home mom but also cooks in the kitchen at Cottonwood Livestock Auction on sale days and before she was married she also worked for the Forest Service. She has 1 sister and 2 brothers, all older than her. Her sister Merranda had brain surgery last fall and is now working for Mary Kay Cosmetics and is engaged to be married. Her older brother Seth is married and just had a baby girl. He graduated from the U of I and works for the Forest Service. Her other brother, Hunter, just graduated from high school and is also working for the Forest Service.
Ciara has lived in Idaho County all her life.
Anna Kaschmitter
Anna B. Kaschmitter is the 16 year old daughter of Mike C. and Shawna E. Kaschmitter of Cottonwood. She will be a junior at Prairie High School this fall.
Organizations she belongs to are HOSA, sports, FFA and Prairie League at school. Outside of school she is involved in 4-H, youth group and summer sports.
She is now in her 8th year of 4-H and has had 3 years of swine projects and 4 years of Making the Most of Me at the Fair. She has also been on the 4-H Fashion Board for two years.
Anna makes money by babysitting.
For her plans after high school she plans to attend veterinary school at Washington State University in Pullman.
He 3 life goals include attending vet school at WSU, being someone’s role model, and starting and raising a family of her own.
She feels her strongest personal quality is her willingness to help others because everyone needs help sometime in their life. She hopes to be the one to help them succeed.
Most important thing in her life is her family. She knows they will always be there to support her in whatever she does and she always has someone to turn to when she has a problem.
There are five members in her family: her mother Shawna, father Mike and two brothers Chase and Cody along with herself. She is the oldest child.
She will have lived in Idaho County for 11 years come August.
Halle Klapprich
Halle Klapprich is the 15 year old daughter of Heath and Tara Klapprich of Cottonwood. She will be a sophomore at Prairie High School this fall.
Youth groups she belongs to are the Tri-Parish Youth Group, Idaho County Fashion Board, Idaho County MOD Squad and the Cottonwood Saddliers & Livestock 4-H Club (6 years). At school she is involved in Prairie League and high school volleyball and basketball.
In her 6 years as part of her 4-H Club she has been and officer for the last 4 years: Historian in 2015, Vice president in 2016, treasurer in 2017 and president in 2018.
Halle has taken part in numerous fair projects. In 4 years of Making the Most of Me she has 3 top projects and 1 top model award. She has also had 6 years of sewing projects with 3 years of top project awards, 1 runner-up award and 1 top modeling award.  She has had market lambs for 4 years and market beef for 2 years. One year she was the fitting and showing reserve champion. She had the rate of gain winner 1 years. She has also had a rabbit project, survival project, 3 years of cake decorating, 2 years of country table setting contest. 1 year of Let’s Begin Cooking, 1 year of leadership, 1 year of crocheting, 2 years of Cloverbud, 2 years of County Demonstration Contest, 2 years of open class sewing with an award of merit 1 year and 1 year participating in the Judging Contest, taking 4th place.
For employment she does babysitting. For Klapprich Ag & Auto she does filing paperwork. For Klapprich Ranch she fixes fence. She also does house cleaning and yardwork for her grandmother JoAnn McHugh.
Her hobbies include basketball, volleyball, drawing, 4-H, painting, babysitting, cooking & cake decorating, reading, sewing, photography and basic crafting.
After high school she plans on going to college for a 4-year bachelor of science program majoring in pre-med. After that she plans on attending med school with an emphasis on surgery.
Her 3 life goals are to graduate from high school with a perfect 4.0 gpa, become a surgeon and get married and have a family.
Halle feels her strongest quality is that she is dependable. She was raised to be helpful and reliable. Your work means a lot and if you say you will do something you need to follow through. Part of being dependable is being helpful. She looks to help others as much as she can and try to notice when others need assistance and will offer help.
The most important thing in her life is her family and her faith. She has a large immediate and extended family and they spend a lot of time together and are very close. Some of her best friends and siblings and cousins. She also is involved in her parish youth group and attends several retreats per year.
She is the oldest of 6 children in her family. She has 5 younger siblings: Olivia (14), Miranda (12), Dylan (10), Ava (6) and Ruby (3). Her father Heath owns a mechanic shop and her mom Tara does the bookkeeping for the business. Both are very supportive and active in her life attending nearly all her sporting events and 4-h activities. They encourage her to work hard in order to achieve her goals. They live on a ranch with 50 head of cattle, 2 dogs, 6 chickens, 5 horses and a stray cat. She enjoys family camping trips, hunting and boating and she and her siblings play outside a lot and have adventures in the family’s timber ground.
She has lived in Idaho County since she was 10 months old and her parents were both born and raised in Idaho County.
Madison Adams
Madison Michelle Adams is the 16 year old daughter of Nick and Heather Slichter of Grangeville.
She will be a senior at Grangeville High School this fall.
Youth organizations she belongs to are all through the school: volleyball, track and FFA.
She past fair involvement started in the sixth grade with swine projects up through 9th grade. She hasn’t had an animal the past two years.
She works for Frontliner at Grangeville.
Hobbies include anything outside such as camping, fishing, hunting, riding horses or hiking.
After high school she plans to attend LCSC and go into the radiology program.
Her 3 goals include graduating from college, becoming successful in her career and eventually having a loving and beautiful family.
Madison feels her strongest quality is her heart because she cares for everyone that she meets and no one is left behind.
The most important thing in her life is her family. They are her rock in this world and they support who she is. She wouldn’t be here without them.
Her family includes her mother, who is her support system, her dad who keeps her in line, her brother, who is a doofus but that’s why she loves him, and her sister who has the personality to entertain anyone.
She has lived in Idaho County her whole life.
Naomi Connolley
Naomi Connolley is the 15 year old daughter of Mike and Tara Connolley of Grangeville. She will be a sophomore at Grangeville High School this fall.
She participates in FFA, her church’s youth group, freedom generation and helps lead Vacation Bible School. She belongs to Lively Livestock and is in her second term as secretary. She has also coached soccer clinics for Kids Klub and assistant coached for boys and girls club.
She has been involved with the Idaho County Fair since she was 6 years old. She has entered open class and did small animal showing as a Cloverbud. She continued on with open class projects in photography and livestock animals as well as Grangeville FFA.
For employment, she and her friend starting their own cleaning business. She also babysits, works in a snack shack and mows lawns.
She enjoys horse riding, hiking, playing soccer and taking pictures of the sunset.
After high school she plans to attend a junior college on a soccer scholarship and become an orthodontic assistant.
Her 3 life goals are to graduate with good grades and attend a junior college on scholarships; to grow in the things she’s good at and improve the things she’s not so good at; and someday become a 4-H mom watching her kids show their lambs.
She feels her strongest personal quality is her confidence when it comes to uncertainty and challenges. She finds this to be true of herself because she has been in a lot of situations where people are doubtful and have low self-esteem, especially in the sports she’s involved in. She’s one who helps keep up the good energy so they can push forward.
She is the youngest of 4 children in her family. Her parents are both in their late 40’s and work from home. Her brother Silas is 25 and will be graduating with a degree in engineering from the U of I next December. Spencer is 22 and skydives in Moab, Utah. Her brother Hunter is 19 and is a chicken farmer and ranch hand. Her dad graduated from Grangeville High School in 1986 and from the U of I in 1992. Her mom graduated from Clearwater Valley High School in 1987. All of her aunts and uncles, except one, live in Idaho County as do all of her grandparents.
She has lived in Idaho County for 13 years.
Clarissa Stevens
Clarissa Stevens is the 15 year old daughter of Fred and Renee Stevens of Grangeville. She will be a sophomore at Grangeville High School and Prodigy Private Instruction this fall.
She participates in Fall Soccer at GHS, Real Life youth group, dance class with Ballet Barre, Girls Bible Study, theatre/drama at GHS, Choir, 4-H, Church, outreach at the Health and Rehab Center, was a “little sister” in the Distinguished Young Woman program and was in Walk for Life.
Past Fair involvement includes showing a rabbit and a horse in Cloverbud and continued in 4-h showing rabbits, dogs, and market swine as well as completing a Know Your Government project which she presented at the Fair.
She currently works as a sales associate at Larson’s Department Store in Grangeville and has also held several babysitting jobs in the past.
Hobbies include art, health, dance class, drama, traveling, being outside, horseback riding and spending time with friends and family.
After high school she hopes to attend college and pursue a career where she can use her gifts and interests to inspire others and be a blessing to them.
Three life goals are: to give back to her community and reach others in a way that contributes beyond herself; live up to her full potential by taking care of herself and putting her best effort into everything she does and prioritize relationship and keep love and adventure thriving in her life.
She feels her strongest personal quality is her ability to get along well with others. She is able to make people feel comfortable. She sees the good in every person, learns from her mistakes and prioritizes the relationship over being right.
Her faith in Jesus Christ is the most important thing in her life because He gives her purpose and strengthens her, fills her life with love and peace and helps her to do her best and never give up.
She is the youngest of 5 children in her family. Her parents are Fred and Renee Stevens. Her older siblings are Sarah Musick, Warren Stevens, Michael Stevens and Rachael Stevens.
She has lived in Idaho County for 12 years.
Grace VanGunten
Grace B. VanGunten is the 16 year old daughter of Kevin and Amber VanGunten of Grangeville. She attends Grangeville High School.
Youth groups she’s a part of include volleyball, tennis, student council, HOSA, Catholic Yough Group and 4-H.
Past fair involvement includes Making the Most of Me, Open Class exhibits and rabbit, lamb and swine projects.
She earns extra money by babysitting.
Grace’s hobbies include fishing, tennis, camping, hiking and kayaking.
After high school she plans on attending a university and major in psychology and hopefully do some traveling.
Her main goal in life is to know, love and serve God and to live the life he has designed for her. She hopes this includes going to college, getting a degree and a job in a profession that serves others, possibly in the medical field. She would also like to get married and raise a family.
She feels her strongest quality is that she is a very motivated and dedicated person. She enjoys setting goals for herself and working hard to achieve them. Being dedicated to her goals has helped her academically, spiritually and socially.
Her family is the most important thing in her life as they are the people that have always supported and helped her become the best version of herself.
She is the second oldest in a family of 4 children and two loving parents. She feels she has been blessed with a large extended family. It has been wonderful having such a great family to depend on.
She has lived in Idaho County all her life.
