Get ready to view some local works of art.
Sew-Ciety Quilters will sponsor its biannual quilt show Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 29 and 30, at Grangeville Elementary Middle School.
With the theme of “Remembering the Blue and the Grey,” anyone interested is invited to enter this non-juried show.
“Ribbons will be awarded based on people who view the show and vote,” explained Sew-Ciety member and volunteer organizer Joan Hall.
Hall is this year’s featured quilter. She is a founding member of the Sew-Ciety Quilt Club.
“I learned through the club, from the expertise of others and through hands-on trial and error,” she said.
Hall is an Idaho County native who has bene quilting since the 1980s.
“When I started, everything was cut using a template,” she said. “There weren’t any rotary cutters and no ¼-inch foot to assure even stitching.”
She has worked with a variety of techniques, but said piecing is her favorite.
Hall and her husband, Marv, enjoy spending time with their children, grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
“I would hope to pass on an appreciation of the art of quilting to my grandchildren, if not to quilt at least to appreciate the beauty and effort in the quilt they see,” she said.
A variety of vendors will be available at the event and the Country Store will feature magazines, books, patterns and kits. Jar raffle items will also be available.
Tickets for the raffle quilt, made by the club, will be available for $1 each or six for $5. The winner will be drawn on Sunday of the show.
The show runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Cost to get in is $3 for 13 and older; 12 and younger get in for free.
“Proceeds from the event go to a variety of endeavors, which in the past has included Quilts of Valor, the food bank and furthering quilt education,” Hall explained.
Those who wish to enter the show can pick up a registration form at Homegrown Quilts,207 West Main Street, Grangeville, or from any club member. Call club member Judy Jeffery at 208-983-2305 for details.
Sew-Ciety Quilters meets the first and third Tuesdays of each month at the United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. Hall said everyone is welcome to attend.
“For the beginner – let us help, and for the expert – let us learn from you,” she said.
