20 turn out for boys basketball
There are 20 players turned out for this year’s Prairie boys basketball team.
There will be 10 each on the varsity and JV with a couple of the varsity players acting as swing players who will also get some JV time.
Returning players who started last year are seniors Spencer Schumacher and Devin Schmidt. Junior Damian Forsmann also started quite a few games last year. Returning varsity players include seniors Tanner Hibbard and Taylor Ott who were swing players last year and juniors Owen Anderson, Sam Mager Derik Shears and Hayden Uhlenkott. Mager, Shears and Uhlenkott were also swing players last year. Also on the varsity is sophomore Cole Schlader. Coach Kevin Chaffee said Schlader and Uhlenkott will also see some JV time.
Full time JV players are sophomores Tyler Wemhoff, Dean Johnson and Alex McElroy and freshmen Travis Alfrey, Zack Rambo, Brody Hasselstrom, Lane Schumacher, Wyatt Ross, Conner Brown and Kyle Schwartz.
Todd Nygaard is the new JV coach this year.
Chaffee said Lapwai and Potlatch will be the teams to beat with C.V. and Genesee also looking competitive.
As was the case with volleyball, the district will get 2+ teams to state like they did a couple years ago. The third place team at District will have to play Wallace and then a southern Idaho team in play-in games to get to state.
