Pirates win 2 of 3
The Prairie Pirates won 2 of 3 games this past week with the 2 wins being league games. On Tuesday, Dec. 4, they beat Kamiah 67-28 at Cottonwood. On Friday, Dec. 7 they lost at Grangeville during the Idaho County Shootout 56-66. On Saturday, Dec. 8, they beat Troy 56-35 at Cottonwood.
Vs. Kamiah
Prairie never trailed against a Kamiah team that had no seniors.
Prairie scored first on a 3-pointer by Devin Ross but Kamiah answered with a 3 of their own to tie it.Sam Mager goes for a lay-up against Kamiah.
A putback by Ross at the 5:40 mark put Prairie ahead for good. He then added 2 free throws after making a steal for a 7-3 lead.
After a Kamiah basket, Damian Forsmann sank a 3 and after a Kamiah free throw, Forsmann assisted on a Ross lay-up for a 12-6 lead.
After another Kamiah free throw, Spencer Schumacher, Owen Anderson and Ross each scored a basket to make it 18-7. Kamiah scored at the buzzer to make it 18-9 after 1.
Cole Schlader opened the second quarter scoring with a 3 and after 2 Kamiah free throws, Prairie put together an 11-0 run. 5 different players scored as Ross had a 3-pointer and Tanner Hibbard, Schlader, Anderson and Schumacher each scored a basket for a 32-11 lead.
Derik Shears scored Prairie’s next 2 baskets and Schumacher scored the final 7 points of the half including a 3-pointer at the buzzer as Prairie took a 43-17 halftime lead.
After 5 first half 3-pointers, Prairie couldn’t hit from beyond the arc in the second half, going 0 for 8. Fortunately they went 11 for 16 from inside the arc to keep extending their lead.
Schumacher had 4 points in the second quarter while Ross, Hibbard and Taylor Ott scored 2 each as Prairie took a 53-27 lead into the fourth quarter.
Prairie then scored the first 11 points of the fourth and outscored Kamiah 14-1 in the final frame.
With 4:28 to play Schumacher scored on a feed from Ross to give Prairie a 57-27 lead and invoke the running clock.
Ross wound up leading the scoring with 21 points while Schumacher had 19. Anderson scored 6, Forsmann and Schlader 5 each, Shears and Hibbard 4 each and Ott 3.
Prairie dominated the boards 40-21 with Schumacher pulling down 13 for a double-double. Shears added 8 rebounds.
Anderson had 4 steals while Forsmann had 5 assists and Schlader added 4 assists.
Prairie was 29 for 49 from the field, 59%, and 4 for 9 at the line, 44%. Kamiah was 9 for 42 from the field, 21%, and 9 for 17 at the line, 53%.
In the JV game Prairie took a 17-1 lead by the end of the first quarter on their way to a 56-23 win. 
Kyle Schwartz scored 7 points in the opening quarter and Hayden Uhlenkott added 4 as Prairie scored the first 6 points of the game and then finished the quarter with 11 straight points.
Kamiah scored the first 3 points of the second quarter but Prairie then scored the next 8. Schwartz had 4 of those points with Wyatt Ross and Tyler Wemhoff scoring 2 each.
Kamiah scored 6 straight to cut the lead to 25-10 but Prairie scored the final 4 of the half for a 29-10 halftime lead. Dean Johnson and Ross each had 2 of those 4 points.
Prairie scored the first 8 points of the third quarter then Kamiah scored 11 of the final 14. In the 8-0 start Schwartz, Uhlenkott, Zack Rambo and Wemhoff each scored a basket while Lane Schumacher’s 3 was the only Prairie score in the final 3 minutes of the quarter.
Prairie took a 40-21 lead into the fourth quarter.
Prairie outscored Kamiah 16-2 in the final period with the final 4:25 played under a running clock. Connor Brown’s 3-pointer pushed Prairie to a 31 point lead at that point.
The only scoring in the final 4 minutes was a basket by Wemhoff with 25 seconds left.
Schwartz wound up with 16 points to lead the scoring with Wemhoff also hitting double figures with 10. Uhlenkott and Brody Hasselstrom scored 6 each with Johnson and Ross scoring 4 each. Schumacher and Brown scored 3 each and Cole Schlader and Rambo scored 2 each.
Prairie had a 28-20 edge on the boards led by Uhlenkott who had 5 rebounds.
Schwartz had 4 steals and 2 assists while Schlader also had 2 assists.
The JV’s were 25 for 48 from the field, 52%, and 4 for 11 at the line, 36%. Kamiah was 8 for 30 from the field, 27%, and 6 for 8 at the line, 75%.

At Grangeville
IOwen Anderson gets bumped by a Grangeville defender.n the Idaho County Shootout at Grangeville, Prairie got off to a horrible start as they hit just 1 of 11 shots in the opening quarter. That 1 basket was a 3-pointer by Ross after Grangeville had taken a 0-6 lead.
Grangeville led 3-9 after 1 quarter and stretched the lead to 3-14 before Forsmann scored Prairie’s second basket of the game.
Prairie wasn’t able to gain any ground on Grangeville the rest of the half but at least played them even as they still trailed by 9 at the half, 23-32. Schlader, Forsmann and Ross each had a 3 in the quarter.
Hibbard scored a lay-up at the buzzer to get the deficit back under 10 points.
Grangeville outscored Prairie 10-16 in the third quarter to take a 33-48 lead into the fourth.
In the fourth quarter Ross, Schumacher and Anderson lead a rally that got the Grangeville lead down to 4 points at 56-60 with 49 seconds to play. Ross was 6 for 6 at the line in the quarter and added a 3-pointer. Schumacher scored 6 and Anderson 5 while Forsmann added a 3-pointer in the rally.
Prairie then resorted to fouling to shorten Grangeville possessions and hopefully trade 1 point for 2 but the Bulldogs hit 6 of 8 free throws in the final 45 seconds while Prairie was unable to get a shot to drop. That led to the final 10-point margin.
Ross wound up with 19 points to lead the Pirates in scoring with Schumacher adding 10, Forsmann 8, Anderson 7, Shears 5, Schlader 3 and Ott and Hibbard 2 each.
Prairie was outrebounded by Grangeville 31-34. Schumacher had 18 rebounds to lead everyone with 12 in the second half as Prairie outrebounded Grangeville 21-17 after halftime.
Grangeville was led by a 3-pronged attack of Trey Dreadfulwater who had 27 points, Colby Kennedy who had 14 and Blake Darr who had 13.
Ross, Shears and Forsmann each had 2 steals for the Pirates and Ross, Schumacher and Schlader each had 2 assists.
Prairie was 17 for 46 from the field, 37%, and 15 for 20 at the line, 75%. Grangeville was 21 for 54 from the field, 39%, and 19 for 24 at the line, 79%.
In the JV game played on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at Cottonwood, Prairie won 54-35.

Vs. Troy
The Pirates closed out the week with a home league win over Troy.
Troy scored first but that was the only time they led in the game. 
Ross quickly tied it with a putback and Shears put back his own miss to give Prairie their first lead. Ross then converted a 3-point play when he was fouled on a lob pass from Forsmann as he made the lay-up.Devin Ross gets way above Troy’s defenders for a jump shot. He had a big week, leading the Pirates in scoring in all 3 games played.
Troy scored twice to get back within 1 but a 7-0 run followed from the Pirates. Ross had 3 of those 7 as he had 8 first quarter points. Shears and Schumacher each added a basket.
Troy scored at the buzzer to cut the lead to 14-8.
Prairie opened the second quarter with a 12-0 run to push the lead to 26-8. Ross scored 5 of those with Forsmann sinking a 3-pointer and Ott adding a lay-up.
Troy scored the next 4 points but Prairie closed out the first half scoring with a 3-pointer by Schlader that gave Prairie a 29-12 lead at the break.
After 15 first half points, Ross couldn’t find the basket in the second half. However, Forsmann and Schumacher took on the scoring load. Forsmann hit 3 straight shots, 2 of which were 3-pointers while Schumacher was 2 for 2 from the field and 2 for 2 at the line in the quarter.
Troy outscored Prairie 14-15 in the quarter but that still left them down 43-27 after 3 quarters.
Troy opened the fourth quarter with a 3 pointer to cut the deficit to 13 points but that was as close as they would get in the second half.
Schumacher answered with 2 baskets and a free throw that put Prairie back up by 17 at 48-31.
Troy twice cut the lead to 15 but Ott answered the first time with 2 free throws and the second time Prairie answered by scoring the final 6 points of the game.
Ross wound up with 15 to lead the scoring with Schumacher scoring 13, Forsmann 11, Shears 6, Ott 5, Schlader 4 and Hibbard 2.
Rebounding wound up even at 31 each. Schumacher had another double-double as he led Prairie with 14 rebounds while Ross added 7.
Ross had 3 steals and 7 assists as he did a little bit of everything for the Pirates.
Prairie was 21 for 47 from the field, 45%, and 10 for 15 at the line, 67%. Troy was 14 for 42 from the field, 33%, and 5 for 12 at the line, 42%.
Prairie is now 2-2 on the season and 2-0 in league play.
Prairie had an easy win in the JV game as they rolled to a 53-11 victory.
Prairie started the game with 21 straight points as Hasselstrom scored 6 and Uhlenkott and Schlader had 5 apiece.
Troy finally scored with 18 seconds left in the opening quarter to make it 21-2 after one. 
The Pirates scoring pace slowed considerably in the second quarter as they outscored Troy 7-4 to take a 28-6 halftime lead. Schumacher hit a 3-pointer and Alex McElroy and Travis Alfrey each scored a basket.
90 seconds into the third quarter each team had scored 3 points then Prairie was off on another big scoring run as they finished the quarter with a 17-0 run.
Schumacher had a pair of 3-pointers in that run while Johnson and Alfrey scored 3 apiece. 
Prairie extended that run to 22 points in the running clock fourth quarter as Johnson converted a 3-point play and Rambo scored a basket to make it 53-9.
Troy scored the only 2 points in the final 6 minutes to make the final tally 53-11.
Schumacher led the scoring with 9 points as he hit on 3 of 4 three-point attempts. Uhlenkott scored 7, Hasselstrom and Johnson 6 each, Schlader, Wemhoff and Alfrey 5 each, Rambo and Schwartz 4 each and McElroy 2.
Troy had the rebounding edge 18-19. Hasselstrom and McElroy each had 4 to lead the Pirates. 
Hasselstrom had 4 steals and 6 assists while Ross and Schlader had 3 steals each. Sam Mager, normally a varsity player, played the first quarter and picked up 4 assists, including each of the JV’s first 3 baskets of the game.
Prairie was 22 for 45 from the field, 49%, and 4 of 8 at the line, 50%. Troy was 5 for 17 from the field, 29%, and 1 of 2 at the line, 50%.
