Pirates are 1-1 on the week
The Prairie Pirates were 1-1 on the week, losing 56-66 at Lapwai on Thursday, Dec. 13 and then winning 63-44 over Genesee at Cottonwood on Saturday, Dec. 15.
Prairie is a perfect 4-0 at home and a winless 0-3 on the road so far this season.
At Lapwai
In the game at Lapwai the second and third quarters were the killers.
Prairie came out strong and led 19-14 at the end of the first quarter but Lapwai outscored them by 10 in the second quarter, 11-21, and took a 30-35 lead at the half.
Lapwai held Prairie to just 7 points in the third quarter while scoring 16 as they took a 37-51 lead into the final period.
Prairie tried to rally as they outscored Lapwai 19-15 in the fourth but it wasn’t enough to erase the deficit.
Spencer Schumacher led the Pirates in scoring with 22 points with Devin Ross adding 11. Cole Schlader and Dylan Schumacher, in his first action of the season, each scored 8. Derik Shears scored 5 and Damian Forsmann scored 2.
The JV team won their game 66-43.

Vs. Genesee
The game against Genesee didn’t start well for the Pirates but they regrouped and won going away.Spencer Schumacher shoots against Genesee.
Genesee scored the first 7 points of the game, all by their 6’4” post Jeffrey Waisenen.
Prairie finally got on the scoreboard when Spencer Schumacher scored a putback at the 4:45 mark.  He then followed with a drive to the hoop for a lay-up. Dylan Schumacher scored 2 baskets and Spencer Schumacher scored another putback to complete a 10-0 Prairie scoring run that gave them the lead for good.
Genesee scored but Schlader answered with a 3-pointer. After another Genesee score, Dylan Schumacher and Schlader each added a basket to make it 17-11 after 1 quarter.
The Pirates scored the first 8 points of the second quarter to push their lead to 14 points. Schlader stole the ball and scored a lay-up. Dylan Schumacher scored inside. Dylan added another basket after a steal by Spencer Schumacher and Forsmann closed out the run by making a steal and scoring.
Genesee was able to outscore Prairie 9-12 to make it 34-23 at the half.
Spencer Schumacher scored 8 of Prairie’s 10 third quarter points as the rest of the team struggled to find the basket. Genesee managed to slice a point of the lead as they trailed 44-34 after 3 quarters.
Forsmann got hot in the fourth quarter hitting 3 of 4 from the field and 3 of 3 at the line. Dylan Schumacher was 2 for 2 from the field and 1 for 1 at the line for 5 fourth quarter points as Prairie outscored Genesee 19-10 to pull away for a 19 point win.
Forsmann wound up as the leading scorer with 16 points with both Schumachers also hitting double figures with Dylan scoring 15 and Spencer 14. Schlader scored 9, Shears 5 and Ross and Owen Anderson 2 each.
Prairie had a 36-33 edge on the boards as Spencer Schumacher had 12 rebounds to lead the Pirates. Ross added 7 rebounds.
Forsmann had 4 steals while Shears had 3 with Ross and Schlader each having 3 assists.
Prairie was 26 for 59 from the field, 44%, and 9 for 12 at the line, 75%. Genesee was 15 for 45 from the field, 33%, and 12 for 26 at the line, 46%.
Prairie is now 4-3 overall and 4-1 in league play.
The JV team won 48-24 to improve to 7-0 on the season.
Prairie jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter with Cole Schlader scoring 9 of their first 11 points. Sam Mager and Zack Rambo each added a basket.
Genesee broke through with 3 minutes to play in the opening quarter and added another basket to make it 13-4. Prairie then closed out the quarter with a 6-0 run with Mager, Schlader and Dean Johnson each scoring a basket. Johnson’s came on a putback at the buzzer.
Prairie then scored the first 4 points of the second quarter as Brody Hasselstrom and Rambo each scored a basket for a 23-4 lead.
After a Genesee basket, Prairie scored another 8 straight points to make it 31-6. Hasselstrom scored a 3-pointer with Mager and Tyler Wemhoff each adding a basket and Hayden Uhlenkott a free throw.
Prairie led 33-10 at the half.
Prairie started the third quarter with another 8-0 run with 4 different players scoring. Prairie wound up outscoring Genesee 12-2 in the quarter to take a 45-12 lead into the fourth. 
The fourth was played with a running clock and Wes Munger had Prairie’s only points of the quarter on a 3-pointer as Genesee outscored Prairie 3-12 to cut the final margin to 24.
Schlader led the scoring with 11 points despite playing just the first quarter. Hasselstrom, Mager and Rambo each scored 6. Uhlenkott, Johnson and Kyle Schwartz each scored 4. Munger scored 3 and Travis Alfrey and Wemhoff each scored 2.
Genesee had a 25-27 edge on the boards with Hasselstrom leading Prairie with 6 rebounds.
Mager and Schwartz each had 4 steals and Uhlenkott, Johnson, Schwartz and Rambo had 3 each as Prairie forced 33 turnovers from the Bulldogs. 7 different players had an assist with Mager the only one to have more than 1 with 2.
The JV’s were 20 for 55 from the field, 36%, and 5 for 11 at the line, 45%. Genesee was 12 for 26 from the field, 46%, and 0 for 1 at the line.

Pirates at New Plymouth Tourney
The Prairie boys basketball team will be taking part in the New Plymouth Holiday Basketball Tournament this Thursday through Saturday.
The games will be held at the College of Idaho in Caldwell.
There are 16 teams participating in two separate 8 team brackets. Prairie will compete in the Purple bracket.
There first game will be against Nyssa of Oregon at 5:30 p.m. MST on Thursday, Dec. 20. 
With a win they would play at 8:30 p.m. MST on Friday against either New Plymouth or Aberdeen. If they should lose they would play the New Plymouth-Aberdeen loser at 2:30 p.m. MST on Friday.
On Saturday the 7th place game will be at 10:30 a.m. MST (for teams that lost on both Thursday and Friday). 
The 4th place game between teams that lost Thursday and won Friday will be held at 1:30 p.m. MST.
The third place game between teams that won Thursday and lost Friday will be at 4:30 p.m. MST.
The championship game will be at 7:30 p.m. MST.
Teams in the other half of the bracket are Riverstone of Boise, Soda Springs, Liberty Charter and Vale, Oregon.

4 earn all-state football honors
Four Prairie football players have been named to the Idaho Statesman’s 1A-Division 1 All-State football team.
Spencer Schumacher was named first team quarterback and second team defensive line.
Carson Schmidt was named first team offensive lineman and second team defensive lineman.
Caleb McWilliams was named first team linebacker.
Dylan Schumacher was named second team defensive back.
