Two local winners are also District winners
The Veterans of Foreign Wars, District II, held its awards luncheon last Saturday in Lewiston.  
Three of the Cottonwood VFW Post winners were recognized and two advanced to State.  Kaylie Lockett, daughter of Stan and Cassie Lockett received honorable mention in the Patriot’s Pen essay competition. 
Taylor Lustig, daughter of Domie and Gina Lustig, was the district winner of the Voice of Democracy and will now compete at the VFW Department of Idaho level.   
Vikki Riener, Prairie Elementary school teacher won the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Award for grades K-5 and will join Taylor at the State competition. The District II awards were presented by Commander Joe Riener and Awards Chairman Lee Hartwig.  
The Department of Idaho awards banquet is January 12th in Boise and will be attended by B.J. Lawrence, National VFW Commander-in-Chief. 
Congratulations to all those students and teachers who participated in this year’s VFW awards program, and join me in wishing Taylor and Vikki good luck at State!
