Pirates win at Genesee
The Prairie Pirates had a light schedule this past week as their only game was a league game at Genesee Spencer Schumacher heads upcourt after making a steal at Genesee. Also shown is Derik Shears.Saturday, Feb. 2, where they won 54-25.
Prairie jumped out to a 13-2 lead as Spencer Schumacher scored 6 points while Dylan Schumacher scored 4 and Damian Forsmann had a 3-pointer.
Genesee’s Jeffery Waisanen hit a 3 to cut the lead to 8 but Devin Ross scored a basket and Forsmann added another 3 to make it 18-5 at the end of the first quarter.
Ross scored again to open the second quarter and Spencer Schumacher converted a 3-point play after making a steal to make it 23-5.
Dylan Schumacher and Cole Schlader each scored 3 while Ross and Spencer Schumacher added 2 each as Prairie took a 33-11 lead at the half.
Waisanen had 9 of Genesee’s 11 points.
Spencer Schumacher opened the second half with a free throw and Waisanen made it 12 of their 14 points with a 3-pointers. 
Prairie responded with an 11-0 run to take a 45-14 lead. Dylan Schumacher had 7 of those 11 points with Schlader and Spencer Schumacher adding 2 each. 
Genesee broke the run with a basket but 2 free throws by Spencer Schumacher again had the lead at 31 points at 47-16. A free throw by Genesee made it 47-17 after 3 quarters which invoked the running clock mercy rule for the fourth quarter.
Genesee outscored Prairie 7-8 in the final quarter with Spencer Schumacher scoring 4 of Prairie’s points while Schlader hit a 3-pointer late in the game.
Spencer Schumacher had 20 points to lead the Pirates in scoring while Dylan Schumacher added 14. Schlader scored 8 while Forsmann and Ross had 6 each.
Genesee had the rebounding edge 22-30. Ross led the Pirates with 6 rebounds while Spencer Schumacher had 5.
Sam Mager and Spencer Schumacher had 3 steals each as Prairie forced 18 turnovers while committing just 7. Mager had 5 assists while Forsmann had 4 as Prairie had 17 assists as a team on 21 made baskets.
Prairie was 21 for 41 from the field, 51%, and 8 for 17 at the line, 47%. Genesee was 7 for 31 from the field, 23%, and 8 for 14 at the line, 57%.
Prairie improves to 9-2 in league play and 14-5 overall.
The JV team also won at Genesee by a score of 49-31.
Kyle Schwartz and Dean Johnson got Prairie off to a 4-0 start with a basket each. 
Genesee answered with 5 straight points to take their only lead of the game at 4-5.
Johnson scored with 4:10 left in the quarter to put Prairie back on top and Hayden Uhlenkott convert a 3-point play to make it 9-5. Brody Hasselstrom drove in for a lay-up to make it 11-5.
Genesee answered with another 3 to cut the lead to 3 but Prairie then went on a 10-0 run to take control. Uhlenkott scored inside then Zach Rambo and Hasselstrom each hit a 3 to make it 19-8 at the end of the quarter. Hasselstrom’s 3 came at the buzzer.
Rambo scored again to open the second quarter and make it 21-8.
Prairie led by 16 after a 3-pointer by Tyler Wemhoff that made it 26-10 and again after a basket by Hasselstrom on an inbounds play made it 28-12.
Genesee scored the final 5 points of the half to cut the lead to 28-17.
Each team scored just 2 points in the first 4 minutes of the third quarter to make it 30-19 then Rambo went on a personal 8-0 scoring run to put Prairie up 38-19 early in the fourth quarter.
Genesee never got any closer than 16 points in the final period with Travis Alfrey finishing off the scoring by putting back his own miss at the buzzer.
Rambo wound up with 15 points to lead the scoring with Hasslestrom scored 10. Uhlenkott, Johnson and Wemhoff scored 5 each while Lane Schumacher scored 3 and Schwartz, Wyatt Ross and Alfrey scored 2 each.
Prairie had a slim 38-36 rebounding edge led by Hasselstrom with 9 and Johnson with 8.
Rambo, Schwartz and Wemhoff had 2 steals each while Schwartz had 5 assists.
Prairie was 21 for 58 from the field, 36%, and 3 for 5 at the line, 60%. Genesee was 13 for 48 from the field, 27%, and 1 for 2 at the line, 50%.
