Board meets
The school board accepted the resignations of both Kevin Chaffee and Todd Nygaard, the head coach and assistant coach for the Prairie boys basketball team at their April meeting Monday, April 15. The board also voted to offer teacher contracts and approve the classified salary schedule pending levy approval. Also approved were the transfer of the bus depreciation to the bus fund and another section of the policy manual with minor changes. In the facilities report Superintendent Rene’ Forsmann said the weather stripping on 4 doors at the Elementary School was completed over Spring Break. She also reported the insurance adjuster was here last week regarding the gutters at both the Elementary and Jr./Sr. High buildings that were damaged by the excessive snow. Snow coming off the roof also damaged the dust collecting unit at the high school shop. She said they have some surplus items they will be putting up for bid. She would also like to have someone look at the Elementary parking lot as some cracks are showing up in the sealcoat. In her principal report Forsmann noted they had 90% attendance for parent-teacher conferences. They will have an attendance assembly on May 3 where Mesa Granning will be presented an award for her first place honor in the Champion Ed coloring contest. In her superintendent’s report Forsmann said she is looking into a 40-60 hour nursing position for the 2019-2020 school year. That’s 40-60 hours total during the school year to do things that it would be preferable to have a nurse do. She is also continuing to participate in conference calls regarding transfer of the health program to IDLA and LCSC. She said she and Christine Frei have CEDA have written a grant application to the Nez Perce Tribe to help fund this and they are also working on another grant opportunity. Parent surveys were to be sent out this week. This is part of the school report card reporting required by the federal government. Jon Rehder reported they served 187 haystacks at the Showcase Night. Well over half of the students had parents pick up report cards over the 2 nights of parent-teacher conferences. Spring sports are an ongoing headache trying to work around the weather and get games in. HOSA had 23 students participate at State April 10-12. The SAT was taken by the juniors on April 9. ISAT’s started Monday. MAP testing begins on April 30. The had 29 donate at the blood drive. If they can get 31 to donate on May 24 the school will get $2,000 in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) money to be used however they best see fit. The meeting adjourned at 6:25 p.m. For the May meeting they go back to a 7 p.m. start time. The next meeting will be Monday, May 20 at 7 p.m. |
