Pirates win 3 of 4
The Prairie baseball team won 3 of their 4 games this past week to clinch third place in the final league standings. That means they were to host a play-in game Tuesday against Genesee (which they won 11-0 to clinch a trip to State). If they won that game they would play C.V. at 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 10 at Orofino. They would have also clinched a berth in the State Tournament set for May 17-18 at Glenns Ferry.
All 4 games were played at Cottonwood. They opened the week with a 21-3 win over Lapwai Tuesday, April 30. On Thursday, May 2, they suffered their lone setback, a 16-20 loss to C.V. On Saturday, May 4, they swept a doubleheader from Kendrick 20-0 and 10-0 to finish their regular season.
Vs. Lapwai
Tate Berdoy started on the mound against Lapwai and gave up a 2-run homer in the first inning. Prairie however answered back with 7 runs in the bottom of the first and were never headed after that.
The Wildcats added just 1 more run in the third while Prairie scored 4 in the second, 8 in the third and 2 in the fourth to end the game after 5 innings on the 10-run rule.
Berdoy pitched into the third inning when Spencer Schumacher took over and finished out the game.
The Pirates pounded out 13 hits and took advantage of 7 Lapwai errors while committing none themselves.
Schumacher had 3 hits including a long home run. Berdoy added 3 singles. Conner Schwartz had a double and a single. Dean Johnson had 2 singles. Dalton Ross had a triple. Owen Anderson and Michael Schwartz each had a double and Sam Mager had a single.
Lapwai had just 2 hits.

Vs. C.V.
Prairie had a chance to finish second in the league if they had won out and avoided having to participate in a play-in game. Unfortunately, for the third straight year, Clearwater Valley played the spoiler and beat the Pirates on the Prairie home field.Lane Remacle struggles with a fly ball against C.V. but was able to make the catch. Also shown is Dalton Ross.
Schumacher started on the mound and gave up 3 straight hits and 2 runs to start the game.
Prairie answered back with a leadoff double by Berdoy. Chase Kaschmitter walked and Mager doubled home Berdoy. Schumacher was intentionally walked to load the baes and Ross worked a walk to score Kaschmitter and tie up the game.  C.V. then changed pitchers and got 3 straight outs to leave the bases loaded.
C.V. continued to hit Schumacher in the second. A leadoff single was followed by a 1 out walk. With 2 outs, Schumacher gave up a walk to load the baes. An infield single scored 1 run and a double brought 2 more in to make it 2-5.
Prairie answered back with Mike Schwartz and Berdoy each singling. An infield out moved up the runners and Mager doubled to the left field corner to score both runners. Schumacher was walked but he and Mager were stranded on the bases.
In the third C.V. knocked Schumacher out with a single and 2-run homer. Berdoy went to the mound and gave up a single. After a strikeout Prairie got out of the inning with a double play as Kaschmitter fielded the ball, stepped on first and gunned out the runner at second.
Anderson led of the Prairie third with a single to left. After 2 outs, Berdoy doubled him home. Kaschmitter doubled to center to score Berdoy. Mager singled to put runners on first and third. Schumacher then hit an apparent 2-run single to right but crumpled to the ground at the plate as he apparently injured his knee on the swing. Instead of a 2-run single it turned into the third out as he couldn’t advance to first.
The Rams got to Berdoy for 2 more runs on 2 walks and 2 singles in the fourth to make it 6-9.
Prairie got one of those back in their half of the inning with a 1-out single by Johnson and a 2 out double to right center by Connor Schwartz.
C.V. came back with 6 runs in the fifth as they chased Berdoy who gave up 4 hits with a hit batsman and 2 errors also figuring into the scoring. Connor Schwartz took over and got a pair of groundouts to short to get out of the inning.
Prairie was unable to score in their half of the fifth.
C.V. added a run in the sixth on a hit batsman and a triple.
Prairie added 2 in the bottom of the sixth. Johnson’s fly ball to center was dropped for an error. He scored on a double by Anderson and Anderson scored on a single by Conner Schwartz.
Prairie trailed 9-16 heading into the seventh.
C.V. appeared to put things away with a 4-run 7th on a single, 2 walks and a home run.
Prairie now faced an 11-run deficit in the bottom of the seventh.
They started with an out then the next 9 runners all reached base. Carson Forsman, taking over for the injured Schumacher, started it with a single. Ross, Johnson and Anderson all walked, forcing in a run. C.V. changed pitchers and Connor Schwartz greeted the new pitcher with an infield hit to score another run. Michael Schwartz doubled home 2 runs and Berdoy doubled in another run. Kaschmitter singled in 2 runs but thought the throw back to the infield got farther away than it did and wound up getting put out in a rundown between 1st and 2nd. That was a huge out as Mager followed with what could have been a run scoring double.  Forsman then hit a high fly to right that wound up being the game-ending out.
Prairie had 20 hits led by Berdoy who was 5 for 6 with 3 doubles and 2 RBI. Mager had 3 doubles and a single and 3 RBI. Connor Schwartz had a double and 2 singles and 3 RBI.  Kaschmitter had a double and a single and 3 RBI. Michael Schwartz had a double and single and 2 RBI. Anderson had a double and single and 1 RBI. Johnson and Forsman each had a single.
Schumacher gave up 7 runs on 8 hits in 2+ innings with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Berdoy gave up 8 runs on 7 hits with 2 walks, 2 hit batsmen and 4 strikeouts. Connor Schwartz gave up 5 runs on 4 hits with 2 walks, 1 hit batsman and 1 strikeout.
C.V.    2 3 2 2 6 1 4—20 19 2
Prairie 2 2 2 1 0 3 7—16 20 4
