Pirates win big at Troy
Owen Anderson had a huge game at Troy, especially in the first half of action, as the Prairie football team rolled to a 78-24 win Friday, Sept. 13.

Quarterback Cole Schlader picked up 18 yards to convert a third and 11 on a bootleg where he faked a handoff on a sweep to the right and then took off around the left side away from the flow of the defense.
On the next play Andersons scored his first touchdown of the game when he ran to the left side and broke at least 2 tackles on a 15 yard run. Schlader passed to Derik Shears for the 2-pointer and an 8-0 lead.
Troy answered right back with a 77 yard drive as quarterback Rhett Sandquist picked up 41 yards on a run then completed a 25 yard pass to Isaac Stoner over the middle. The touchdown came on a 6 yard pass to Sam Taff. Prairie stuffed the 2-point run to hang on to an 8-6 lead.
Prairie came right back and scored again as Anderson picked up his second touchdown. This time on a short flare pass to the left that Anderson took 59 yards for the score. The 2-point try came up short as Prairie led 14-6.
Anderson ended Troy’s next possession when he made an acrobatic 1-handed catch for an interception of a Sandquist pass at the Prairie 35. He took it back 28 yards to set the Pirates up at the Troy 37.
After a 5 yard loss, Schlader pass to Shears for 22 yards and a first down at the 20. On the next play Anderson went over the right side for his third touchdown. He then added the 2-pointer to make it 22-6 with 2:14 still left in the first quarter.
The defense forced Troy to punt on their next possession with Schlader blitzing in to sack Sandquist for a 12 yard loss on third down to set up fourth and 24 from the Troy 33.
Prairie scored in just 3 plays with Martin carrying all 3 plays. He looked like he was going to score on the first play as he went 45 yards to the Troy 11 before being tackled. He gained 9 yards to the 2 on the next play and then scored form the 2. Martin also ran in the 2-pointer to make it 30-6 with 10:21 left in the half.
Troy’s next possession didn’t last long as Anderson took the ball away from Troy’s Reece Sanderson at the 10 yard line and took the fumble into the end zone for his fourth touchdown of the game. Anderson added the 2-pointer on a run to make it 38-6.
Troy then put together another scoring drive as they went 69 yards in 11 plays for their second touchdown of the game, a 2 yard pass from Sandquist to Stoner. The 2-point try failed making it 38-12 Prairie with 4:13 left in the half.
Prairie put together a 7play, 48 yard scoring drive with Martin going in from the 2 for the score to make it 44-12 as the 2-point try failed.
Troy fumbled the ball away on their next possession with Dean Johnson recovering at the Troy 35.
Schlader rushed for 5 yards then misfired on a deep pass to Martin. On the next play, coach Ryan Hasselstrom had a play called then switched up to a different play at the last second. Good call. He switched up to a trick play, the hook and ladder. Schlader passed 10 yards deep to the right side to Sam Mager, who lateraled to Anderson who raced the final 20 yards to the end zone for his fifth touchdown of the game. The 2-point try failed but Prairie now led 50-12 with 9 seconds left in the half.

Dalton Ross returned the short kickoff 8 yards to the Prairie 40. Martin went around left end for 30 yards to the Troy 20. On the next play Schlader rolled out and found Shears downfield for a 30 yard touchdown play. Martin ran in the 2-pointer to make it 58-12 and invoke the 40-point running clock rule for the rest of the second half.
Troy moved the ball down to the Prairie 25 on their next possession where Schlader stepped in front of a Sandquist pass for an interception that he returned to the Prairie 35.
With Martin dealing with a leg cramp, Shears went in at tailback and picked up 24 yards for a first down at the Troy 37.
A bad snap in shotgun formation on the next play saw Schlader recover the ball clear back at the Prairie 35 for a 28 yard loss. After an incompletion, Schlader picked up 14 yards on a keeper. A personal foul on Troy added another 15 yards. Schlader then passed to Anderson for 25 yards to the 11 yard line.
Shears ran the ball over the left side for 11 yards and another Prairie touchdown on the next play to make it 64-12 as the 2-point try came up short.
Troy had to punt on their next series but got the ball right back at the Prairie 6 as the punt was fumbled. Two plays later the Trojans scored their third touchdown as Sandquist carried the ball in from the 6. That made it 64-18.
It didn’t take long for Prairie to answer as Martin fielded the kickoff at the 15 yard line and took it all the way for a touchdown. He picked up a great block by Ross along the way.
Troy had to punt again and Jesse Cronan blocked the punt with Prairie taking over at the Troy 26.
The subs went in on offense and needed just 2 plays to score. T.J. Hibbard picked up 1 yard on first down then took off over the left side for 25 yards and a touchdown on the next play to make it 78-18.
Troy added one more score from their reserves with sophomore running back Elijah Phillis going 54 yards for the game’s final points as it ended 78-24.
In two games Prairie has yet to allow a 2-point conversion on any of the 6 touchdowns scored by their opponents.
Anderson wound up the game with 145 total yards of offense and 5 touchdowns. He had 2 rushing, 2 receiving and 1 fumble return for a score. He rushed 4 times for 43 yards and had 102 yards receiving with 3 catches.
Martin added 129 yards rushing on 10 attempts as Prairie had 266 yards rushing. Hibbard added 37 yards on 6 carries and Shears had 35 on 2 carries. 
Schlader was 7 for 11 passing for 169 yards. Shears had 2 catches for 52 yards and Mager had 2 for 15 yards.
Troy had 168 yards rushing led by Sandquist who had 92 yards on 20 carries. Sandquist was 5 for 17 passing with 2 interceptions for 45 yards.
Anderson led the defense with 7 tackles including a fumble recovery and an interception. Mager also had 7 tackles. Shears had 6.5 tackles. John Gehring had 3.5 tackles and half a sack. Martin had 3 tackles and a sack. Schlader had 3 tackles, 1.5 sacks and an interception. Ross and Hayden Uhlenkott each had 3 tackles. Dean Johnson had 2 tackles and a fumble recovery. Reid Uptmor and Lane Schumacher each had 2 tackles. Cronan had 1.5 tackles and a blocked punt. Hibbard and Matt Coppernoll each had 1.5 tackles. Zach Rambo had 1 tackles and Carson Forsman had half a tackle.
Prairie is now 2-0 on the season and 1-0  in league play. Their next game is Homecoming this Friday against Kendrick at 7 p.m. It is also their first home game of the season.

JV team wins twice against varsity teams
The Prairie JV football team has played a pair of 1A-Div. 2 varsity teams so far this season and have come away with 2 wins.
On Thursday, Sept. 5 they traveled to Nezperce and defeated Lewis County 56-36. On Tuesday, Sept. 10 they hosted Timberline and won 50-24.
Against Lewis County quarterback Zach Rambo passed for 2 touchdowns and ran for another.
Tayden (T.J.) Hibbard opened the scoring with a 67 yard run.
After Lewis County tied it, Hibbard scored again on a 4 yard pass from Rambo. 
Lane Schumacher scored on a 16 yard pass from Rambo and Rambo added the 2-point run to make it 20-6.
Lewis County answered with a touchdown and conversion to make it 20-14 after 1 quarter.
In the second quarter Rambo scored on a 2 yard run with John Gehring adding the 2-pointer on a pass from Rambo. John Gehring then scored on a 55 yard run to give Prairie JV a 34-14 lead.
Lewis County added a touchdown and conversion to cut the lead to 34-22 at the half.
The Eagles cut the deficit to just 4 with a touchdown and conversion in the third quarter but Prairie answered with a 34 yard touchdown run by Brody Hasselstrom. Rambo ran in the 2-pointer. 
Schumacher then picked off a pass and ran it in for a touchdown to make it 50-30 after 3 quarters.
Each team scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter with Dalton Ross scoring for Prairie on a 50 yard run.

In the game against Timberline Hibbard again opened the scoring with a 52 yard run.
Timberline came back with a 54 yard pass play for a score and took the lead with a 2-point conversion. 
Prairie tied the score with a safety and the took the lead on a 2 yard run by Rambo. Rambo added the 2-pointer for a 16-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Ross opened the second quarter scoring with a 27 yard run with Gehring catching a pass from Rambo for the 2-point conversion.
Timberline scored a touchdown and added the 2-pointer to trim the lead to 24-16. Prairie then scored twice more in the half for a 36-16 halftime lead. Ross scored both touchdowns. The first on a 16 yard pass from Rambo and the second on a 33 yard pass from Rambo.
Hasselstrom scored the only points in the third quarter on a 24 yard run.
Rambo opened the fourth quarter scoring with a 16 yard run then passed to Hibbard for the 2-pointer. That made it 50-16.
Timberline scored a final touchdown and conversion to make the final score 50-24.
