In their only game played between Tuesday and Monday, the Prairie Pirates gained a season sweep over Genesee with a 68-55 win at Cottonwood Thursday, Jan. 23. The Pirates took a 21-15 lead after the first quarter and led 41-32 at the half. They extended the lead to 57-39 after 3 quarters and then held off Genesee in the fourth quarter to win by 13. Derik Shears topped the Pirates in scoring with 23 points and pulled down 9 rebounds to lead the team in that category as well. Also scoring in double figures were Cole Schlader with 12 points and Damian Forsmann with 10. Owen Anderson scored 6 with Sam Mager, Brody Hasselstrom and Hayden Uhlenkott adding 5 points each. Kyle Schwartz added 2 points. Prairie is now 8-5 on the season and 4-3 in league play. This week they played at C.V. Tuesday evening and travel to Troy Wednesday, Jan. 29 to make up a postponed game. On Friday, Jan. 31 they travel to Potlatch and next Monday, Feb. 3 they host Orofino. The JV team also won against Genesee, 62-40, while the C team lost to the St. John Bosco JV boys 38-47.
