Schumacher takes third place
Holli Schumacher, a freshman at Prairie High School, has been wrestling with Orofino this past season.
This past weekend, Feb. 14-15, she competed at the State Girls Wrestling Championships held at Pocatello and placed third in the 100 lb. weight class.
She had a 14-22 record going into the meet, wrestling against both girls and boys during the season.
In her opening match she won by pin in 47 seconds over Sophia Brizzi of Pocatello.
In the second round she also won by pinfall in 5:43 over Samantha del Fierro of Timberline High School of Boise.
In the semifinals she lost by pin in 3:14 to eventual champion, Jocelyn Bautista of Caldwell.
In the consolation semifinals she won by pin in 4:02 over Taylor Call of Hillcrest.
In the third place match she faced del Fierro again, and again won by pin in 4:52 to place third.
All her opponents were freshmen except for Bautista, who is a sophomore.
Schumacher will compete at the District I-II meet at Potlatch Saturday, Feb. 22, to try to qualify for the sanctioned State Wrestling Tournament to be held at the Ford Idaho Center Feb. 28-29.
