Coach Mader makes 10th straight trip to State
Prairie girls basketball coach Lori Mader has extended her own record as a coach by reaching the State Tournament for the 10th straight season in her 10th year as head coach.
In 2017 she tied her old coach’s record of 7 straight state trips. Chris Wren advanced to state each of the 7 years he was a Prairie girls coach. At that point it was also the third time that the Prairie girls team had made it straight to state in 7 straight seasons. In 2018 she broke both records by going for the 8th straight year. And now 2 years later she has made it 10 straight trips.
This is actually her 14th trip to state as she made it 4 times as a high school player from 1989-1992.
Mader is also tied with Art Dorval, Don Hoffmann and Chris Wren with 2 state championships. That third one has been very elusive. Key injuries and some superior Lapwai teams have kept Mader from notching that third title even though they have made the championship game 4 times since she got her second in 2014.
Hoffman made it to state 4 straight times from 1979 through 1982 and 5 overall. Art Dorval went 3 times in 3 years as coach.
On the boys side Teel Bruner went 6 times overall in 2 streaks of 3 years from 2009-2011 and 2014-2016. Kevin Chaffee went to state all 3 years he was head coach from 2017-2019. The boys’ current 6-year streak is their longest ever.
