Paving project at Winchester Lake State Park
Attention Visitors:
Some areas of Winchester Lake State Park will be closed to the public starting Monday, May 11th through Wednesday, May 13th to allow for paving and improvements to day use parking areas. The boat ramp parking lot and parking lot below the fish cleaning station at Winchester Lake State Park will be closed to the public Monday May 11th through Wednesday May 13th, 2020 for paving.  The project scope also includes a new, American Disabilities Act compliant pathway and landing to allow access to the ADA dock at the boat launch.
Public access to affected areas in the park will be restricted to allow contractor, Poe Asphalt, the time to complete the projects safely. We anticipate that the new parking lots will be ready for use on Thursday May 14th.  A public announcement will be made when facilities are reopened to the public.
Vehicle Closures: Because trailer and large vehicle turnaround space will not be available during this time, we will be stopping vehicle traffic at the park entrance kiosk.  Limited parking for day use is available at Ponderosa Point Day Use area. Public parking will not be available at the Discovery Trailhead (near the park shop) to allow equipment access and storage. Motor Vehicle Entrance Fees of $5 for all vehicles without an IDPR annual pass will still be in effect.
Boat closures: Boat launching will NOT be available from the boat ramp during the duration of the project.
Facility closures: In accordance with the Idaho Stay at Home Order and IDPR policy, campground closures will still be in effect through May 15, 2020.  Additional closures specific to this project (May 11-13) will include bathrooms at the boat launch and near the fish cleaning station, docks and shoreline access adjacent to the boat launch parking lot, and docks and shoreline access near the fish cleaning station.
Non-motorized Access: Access to the Lake Shore Trail via the boat ramp parking lot (over the foot bridge) will not be available. Trail users may access the Lake Shore Trail and loops from the Idaho Fish and Game parking lot on the north shore of the lake.  Access to Discovery Interpretive Trail will also be unavailable during the paving project timeframe.
We are excited to complete these projects to improve and expand recreational access at Winchester Lake State Park. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding during this time.
