Ulmer defeats Giddings, school levy passes
Election results in Idaho County for the Primary Election were released late in the evening June 2, the deadline day for turning in ballots.
Of note locally, the Cottonwood School District override levy passed with a 59.48% yes vote, 499 yes to 340 no.
In the only Idaho County contested race, challenger Doug Ulmer outpolled incumbent Sheriff Doug Giddings nearly 2 to 1 in the Republican primary at 3,524 votes to 1,769 for 66.58% of the vote.
Skipper Brandt for Commissioner District 1, Ted Lindsley for Commissioner District 2 and Kirk McGregor for County Prosecutor were all unopposed in the Republican primary. Brandt and McGregor are both incumbents while Lindsley is seeking the position currently held by Mark Frei, who is not running for re-election.
At the precinct level Denis Duman defeated Scott Perrine 130-56 for Cottonwood Precinct 1 Republican Committeeman.
In legislative District 1 Priscilla Giddings defeated challenger Dennis Harper 2,890-2,186 in Idaho County and 5,018-3,875 District wide to win the Republican nomination for State Representative Seat A.
In the Seat B race, Charlie Shepherd defeated Cornel Rasor 2,738-1,995 in Idaho County and 4,.414-4,015 District wide to win the Republican nomination. Shepherd is seeking the position held for many years by his father Paul Shepherd who declined to seek re-election this time around.
Carl Crabtree was unopposed for State Senator from District 7.
In the Congressional primary incumbent Russ Fulcher held off challenger Nicholas Jones, 93,879-23.664 to win the Republican nomination for U.S. Representative from District 1. He will face Democratic challenger Rudy Soto in November. Soto defeated Staniella Nikolova 25,112-13,074 to win the Democratic nomination.
For U.S. Senate, Republican incumbent Jim Risch was unopposed in the primary. He will face Democrat Paulette Jordan who defeated Jim Vandermaas 72,777 to 12,145 to win the Democratic nomination.
