Craigmont celebrates Centennial this weekend
On June 18, 1920 a “wedding” was held between Miss Ilo, portrayed by Muel Bartlett and Mr. Vollmer, portrayed by S.N. Bunce as the city of Craigmont was formed by the union of the former rival communities of Ilo and Vollmer. The annual June Picnic celebration in Craigmont commemorates that event each year.
This year Craigmont celebrates the 100th anniversary of that wedding with the June Picnic which will be held June 26, 27 and 28.
A schedule of events is shown at right.
The event came close to being cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic but organizers voted to proceed with the event once Idaho moved into stage 4 of reopening.
Most of the usual events are on tap such as the Horseshoe Tournament, co-ed softball tournament, co-ed volleyball tournament, parade, ping pong ball drop, American Legion Barbecue, egg toss, and street dance.
The annual parade starts at 10 a.m. with registration starting at 8 a.m.
A special event this year is the re-enactment of the Miss Ilo-Mr. Vollmer wedding which will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 27 at the City Park.
On Sunday there is an ATV Treasure Hunt which will start at the City Park at 11:30 a.m.
The Craigmont Lions Club will be selling their famous Lionburgers all three days.

Some items on the schedule may be changed due to orders from the Health Dept. regarding COVID-19.
