COVID-19 update for the Monastery
The leadership of the Monastery of St. Gertrude has considered the rise in Covid-19 cases throughout Idaho and beyond and has implemented new policies in order to promote the safety of sisters and guests.
Essentially, the Welcome Center, Historical Museum at St. Gertrude, Inn at St. Gertrude, and Spirit Center retreat facility will be open with modifications. However, the main Monastery building, including the chapel, will remain closed to the public until the end of the year, at which time this decision will be reviewed. Guests are welcome to walk outside around the campus and up the hill along the Stations of the Cross.
Welcome Center and Historical Museum
The Welcome Center and Historical Museum are open to all guests, under normal business hours: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. For more information contact Debra Graham at 208-962-2054 or email dgraham@stgertrudes.org. Visit the Historical Museum’s website at historicalmuseumatstgertrude.org.
Inn at St. Gertrude
The Inn is open to guests who are coming from areas where non-essential travel is allowed by local or state guidelines. If you are coming from an area where non-essential travel is not recommended or is restricted by local or state guidelines, unfortunately we are not able to accommodate your visit at this time. If you are experiencing Covid-19 symptoms, please stay home. We will be taking extra precautions regarding social distancing in the Wren Room (the dining room where breakfast is served), and our innkeeper, Will Hunter, will be wearing a mask, keeping his distance, and keeping highly used surfaces disinfected. We will be asking you to wear a mask in the hallway and wash your hands regularly. The Main monastery building (including the chapel) remains closed, and guests cannot have any contact with the sisters. Questions or concerns can be directed to Will Hunter, Innkeeper, at inn@stgertrudes.org or 208-451-4321. Visit the Inn’s website at innatstgertrude.com.
Spirit Center/Farmhouse
Guests will be able to experience the prayerful atmosphere and beautiful setting of St. Gertrude’s while still observing social distancing. The gathering spaces will be arranged so people can stay six feet apart. All guests must wear masks outside their rooms. Guests may not attend Mass and prayer nor dine with the sisters. Meals will take place in Spirit Center. Farmhouse guests will cook their own meals. Questions about Spirit Center activities can be directed to Krista Green at 208-962-2004 or kgreen@stgertrudes.org. Visit the Spirit Center website at spirit-center.org.
Benedictine Hospitality in a Time of Pandemic
We will continue to adjust our response to Covid-19 in order to keep the vulnerable population at the Monastery of St. Gertrude healthy and safe. Please keep yourself healthy and do your part to protect those around you. As always, we look forward to welcoming you to the Monastery of St. Gertrude. Learn more at stgertrudes.org.
