Pirates win 54-14 at C.V.
Brody Hasselstrom stepped in for injured Cole Martin and led the Prairie football team to a 54-14 league win over Clearwater Valley at Kooskia Friday, Sept. 11. John Gehring and Jesse Cronan tackle a C.V. runner for a loss. Also shown is Brody Hasselstrom, 20.
Prior to introductions before the game a moment of silence was held in remembrance of what happened on Sept. 11, 2001.
Hasselstrom gained 274 yards rushing in less than 3 quarters of action in the game and added another 33 on pass receptions while scoring 4 touchdowns.
It looks like Hasselstrom will be Prairie’s feature back the rest of the season as Martin’s knee injury, which came late in the game at Kendrick, looks to be a season ending injury.
For the second straight week, Prairie kicked off to start the game and wound up recovering an onside kick. This time it was Dalton Ross who came up with the ball.
Prairie needed 5 plays to score this time with Hasselstrom picking up hit first touchdown on a 1 yard run. He had runs of 19 yards and 11 yards in the drive with Tayden Hibbard adding 14 on another run.

After 3 incomplete passes C.V. punted again. This time Hibbard returned the punt 44 yards from the Prairie 33 to the C.V. 23.
On the next play though Schlader had his pass intercepted by the Rams at the 3 and it was returned to the 21.
Despite an offside penalty against the Pirates the defense held again and C.V. punted from the 14 with Prairie taking over at the C.V. 44.
Prairie needed 6 plays to cover 44 yards for another score. Hasselstrom had runs of 19, 18 and 7 yards with Hibbard covering the final 4 yards on a run up the middle for the touchdown. Schlader ran in the 2-pointer to make it 22-0with 1:08 left in the first quarter.
A sack of C.V. quarterback Anthony Fabbi by Gehring and Jesse Cronan for a 13 yard loss led to another C.V. punt with Prairie taking over at the C.V. 47 after an 8 yard return by Hibbard.
The Prairie defense held C.V. to -33 yards in the first quarter.
Prairie needed just 5 plays to add another touchdown with Hasselstrom running a sweep to the right for 32 yards for the score. Schlader passed to Gehring for the 2-pointer to make it 30-0.

Prairie then gave lineman Dean Johnson a chance to carry the ball as he gained 4 yards.
On fourth and 8, Johnson lined up as a wingback to the right and Hasselstrom took a pitch and followed Johnson around right end. Once Hasselstrom broke past the first line of defense he wound up running through at least two tackle attempts on his way to the end zone on a 35 yard gain. Hibbard ran in the 2-pointer to make it 38-0 with 4:16 left in the half.
C.V. finally picked up their initial first down of the game and broke into positive yardage with a 50 yard pass play that put them on the Prairie 23. The Pirate defense reasserted themselves though and C.V. wound up turning the ball over on downs at the 22.
Tayden Hibbard leaves a C.V. defender in his wake as he heads for the end zone.Prairie looked to add another score before halftime as they picked up first downs on 5 straight plays. Hasselstrom gained 19 yards on a run that got Prairie to the 6 yard line before time ran out.

Prairie took over at their 31 and Hasselstrom carried for 2 yards on the first play and then was taken out of the game.
Prairie moved the ball to the C.V. 45 before running the ball over on downs.
With the first string defense out of the game for Prairie, the Rams were finally able to move the ball as they went 55 yards in 7 plays for their first touchdown of the game. That came with 1:10 left to play.
C.V. then recovered an onside kick at the Prairie 47. They moved down to the Prairie 19 and had time left for just 1 more play. A touchdown pass from Fabbi to Jesse Knox was called back on a C.V. penalty. Since Prairie accepted the penalty that gave C.V. 1 untimed down from the 26 and Fabbi again connected with Knox for a touchdown.
