Pirates earn State berth
The Prairie Pirates punched their ticket to State by taking second place in the District Tournament. They opened with a 56-49 win over Genesee on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at Cottonwood. On Friday, Feb. 26, they lost 54-83 at Lapwai. On Saturday, Feb. 27, they hosted Genesee again and had to rally from a 17 point deficit with just over 6 minutes left to win 63-58. . . .

The Pirates celebrate after their epic comeback against Genesee in the District championship game. They were down 17 with 6:14 to play and won by 5. The win puts them into the State Tournament where they will open against Riverstone of Boise on Wednesday, March 3 at 1 p.m. PST. See below left for stories and State Tournament info. Monica Geockner, top, won 1st place in the school spelling bee held on February 19th for the Cottonwood School District.  She will go on to compete in the 35th Annual Inland Northwest Regional Spelling Bee via the Online Testing Platform on Friday, March 19, 2021.
