Cottonwood City Council meets
The burning ban order for Cottonwood instituted last summer due to the excessive heat and dry conditions was rescinded at the October meeting of the Cottonwood City Council Tuesday, Oct. 12.
A motion was made to adopt a resolution regarding retention/destruction of city records was approved. This allows the city to destroy outdated records that are no longer needed.
A request was made to the city to disconnect the water/sewer service to the former Burt Lute residence across the highway. This request was granted.
A request by the VFW for waiver of hall rent for their Patriots Pen/Voice of Democracy awards night was also approved.
In the reports Pat Holthaus reported they pumped 4.2 million gallons of water and sold 4.1 million for a loss of just 1%.
Roy Uhlenkott reported they are working to complete a job replacing some collapsed sewer lines in the northern end of town.
There was no street report.
In land and buildings, Linda Nida reported the watermelon toilet has been making the rounds and has raised around $800 so far with the GoFundMe site having raised another $2100 towards the match for the park pavilion project grant. She also reported that Dodd Snodgrass of CEDA had informed her there were fewer applications for this type of grant than expected, which increases the city’s prospects of being approved.
They will meet with a grand board member the end of October to discuss where they are and what needs to be done.
Nida reported the firemen took an engine to the football game and also presented the colors for the National Anthem. They had no fire calls during the month.
Under unfinished business, the city has agreed to supply water and sewer service for St. John Bosco Academy. Uhlenkott said they will be keeping an eye on things there, especially once their new gym/auditorium facility opens.
Uhlenkott also said the sewer system is still having a problem with “flushable” wipes that can clog the headworks. He is looking into cost estimates for fixing/replacing the headworks.
The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m. The next meeting is set for Monday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. At that time they will know the election results and can possibly take action on the vacant mayor position.
