Pirates get week off
The Prairie football team is going into the 1A-D1 state playoffs with a first round bye as a league champion.
They will play either Friday, Nov. 5 or Saturday, Nov. 6, depending on their opponent. The game is likely to be played at Cottonwood.
The state is using Maxpreps rankings to seed the field this year and Prairie is ranked at #4.
Rankings for teams qualifying are:
Raft River, #1; Oakley #2; Butte County #3; Prairie #4; Lapwai #5; Notus #6; Grace #7; Murtaugh #8; Genesee #9; Potlatch #10; Clearwater Valley #11 and District 1 champion, either Wallace or Lakeside, who split on the season and likely play a Kansas tiebreaker, #21 and #22 respectively.  The Wallace-Lakeside winner will be the #12 seed in the field.
First round matchups are Oakley vs. Wallace-Lakeside winner; Lapwai vs. C.V.; Grace vs. Potlatch and Murtaugh vs. Genesee.
Teams will be seeded into the second round according to their MaxPreps rankings which would have Oakley as the #2 seed if they win, even though they aren’t a league champion.
Prairie’s likely opponent as the #4 seed would be Lapwai if they beat C.V. If Lapwai loses Prairie's likely opponent would be #6 Notus.
The current state bracket is below.
