Pirates win two road games
The Prairie Pirates won a pair of league road games to finish the 2021 portion of their season. On Thursday, Dec. 16, they traveled to Kooskia and beat Clearwater Valley 66-49. On Friday, Dec. 17, they traveled to Potlatch where they pulled out a 53-49 win over the Loggers.
At C.V.
Lee Forsmann scored 23 points to lead Prairie to the win at C.V.
Zach Rambo added 16 and Lane Schumacher 12 for the Pirates who outscored C.V. in each quarter.
Prairie led just 13-10 at the end of the first quarter and extended the lead to 31-23 by halftime. At the end of the third quarter it was 50-37. They outscored the Rams 16-12 in the fourth quarter to win by 17.
Kyle Schwartz was just shy of double figures with 9 points with Wyatt Ross and Travis Alfrey each adding 3 points.
The game had originally been scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 14, but was postponed due to school closures on the 14th.
Prairie also won the JV game, no score available.

At Potlatch
Forsmann again had a big scoring night at Potlatch. The Loggers keyed their defense around shutting down Rambo and Schumacher in the first half and as a result, Forsmann scored 11 first quarter points on his way to 16 by halftime.
Prairie never trailed in the contest as Forsmann opened the scoring with a putback of his own missed shot. After Potlatch tied it, Ross scored for a 4-2 lead. Lane Schumacher shoots at Potlatch.
Potlatch tied it again at 4. Forsmann then scored inside to put Prairie into the lead for good. A minute later he added a 3-pointer to push the lead to 9-4.
Potlatch made a pair of free throws but Forsmann answered with a pair of baskets to make it 13-6.
Ross, Schwartz and Schumacher each added a basket as Prairie took a 19-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Potlatch closed within 3 in the second quarter before Forsmann hit his second 3-pointer of the game to make it 22-16. Potlatch then closed within 2 at 22-20 before Rambo scored on a putback and Schumacher hit from 3-point range to quickly push the lead back to 7 at 27-20.
Rambo and Forsmann each added a putback before halftime but Potlatch cut the lead to 6 with a basket and then a 3-pointer as it was 31-25 at halftime.
In the third quarter Potlatch paid more attention to Forsmann defensively but that opened things up for Schumacher who scored 10 points in the quarter.
Schumacher opened the second half scoring with a 3-pointer but Potlatch answered with 5 straight points. Schumacher scored on another 3 and then added 2 free throws. Rambo then scored a pair of baskets in an 11-0 Prairie scoring run that gave the Pirates a 45-30 lead.
Potlatch closed the third quarter with 4 straight points and then scored the first 4 of the fourth to pull within 7 at 45-38.
Ross scored on an inbounds feed from Schumacher then Potlatch scored 4 more points to get within 5 at 47-42 with 2:28 to play.
Forsmann scored inside for his first points of the second half but Potlatch answered. Forsmann scored again, this time on a putback. Potlatch answered with a 3-point play to cut their deficit to 4 at 51-47 with 50 seconds left.
Forsmann scored inside again to make it a 6-point game with 23 seconds left. Potlatch scored the game’s final points with just 2 seconds left to make the final margin 4 points.
Forsmann wound up with 22 points to again lead the scoring. Schumacher added 15 with Rambo scoring 8, Ross 6 and Schwartz 2.
Potlatch had a 21-26 edge on the boards. Forsmann led Prairie with 9 rebounds.
Schumacher had 3 steals and 3 assists. Rambo had 5 assists and 2 steals. Schwartz had 4 assists.
Prairie was 23 for 51 from the field, 45%, and 2 for 4 at the line. Potlatch was 19 for 38 from the field, 50%, and 9 for 9 at the line.
Prairie committed 8 turnovers to 16 for the Loggers.
Prairie ends 2021 with a record of 6-1 overall, 3-1 in league play.
There was no JV game due to a lack of players available for Potlatch.
