Pirates finish 4th at DistrictPIRATES BOYS BASKETBALL SCHEDULE FOR 2021-22
The Prairie Pirates basketball season came to an end in the District Tournament as they lost in the third place game, finishing in 4th place. On Wednesday, Feb. 23, they edged Potlatch 37-35 to advance to the third place game. On Thursday, Feb. 24, they lost to Logos 36-42. Both games were played at the Lewiston High School gym.Lane Schumacher sites in a 3-point shot against Potlatch.
Vs. PotlatchThe game against Potlatch was streaky game as Prairie jumped out to double digit leads twice, only to have Potlatch rally back to make it close.
Prairie opened the game with a 7-0 run on a putback by Lee Forsmann, a 3 by Lane Schumacher and a lay-up by Wyatt Ross that was the result of a steal by Shane Hanson.
Potlatch finally scored at the 2:21 mark but Zach Rambo answered with a drive to the hoop. After another Potlatch score, Rambo and Schumacher each scored a lay-up to give Prairie a 13-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.
A putback by Forsmann opened the second quarter scoring. A steal by Colton McElroy led to a 3-point play by Schumacher. Hanson then scored on a midrange jumper to make it 20-4 with 4:43 left in the half.
At that point Potlatch put together their first scoring streak. They scored 12 straight points to cut the lead to 20-16 with big man Jaxon Vowels scoring 8 of those points.
Schumacher was fouled on a desperation shot at the buzzer and made 2 of the 3 free throws to give Prairie a 22-16 halftime lead.
Vowels scored to open the second half then Prairie put together an 8-0 run to take a 12-point lead. Ross started it by driving the baseline for a lay-up. Forsmann made a lay-up and a free throw. Rambo then converted a 3-point play for a 30-18 lead with 2:42 left in the third quarter.
Potlatch scored with 1:05 left to make it 30-20 and that’s where the score stood entering the fourth quarter.
At the 4:31 mark of the fourth quarter Ross scored a free throw after making a steal for a 33-25 lead.

With 52 seconds left Ross made the first of a 1 and 1 to give Prairie a 36-35 lead.
Potlatch, for some reason, never went back to Vowels in the final minute and it cost them. Kyle Schwartz wound up with the ball after a missed shot by the Loggers and was fouled with 15 seconds left. He made the first of 2 free throws for a 37-35 lead.
The best shot Potlatch could come up with in the final 15 seconds was a missed 3-point shot at the buzzer by freshman Everett Lovell.
