St. Mary's/Holy Cross Dinner returns
There is great news for all the loyal attendees of the annual Keuterville Holy Cross dinner. After two years, this community celebration is back! The 44th annual dinner and prize drawing is Sunday, March 20th, taking place from 11 am to 4 pm at the Keuterville Hall. There have been a few changes. One of which is you hopefully won’t have to take the Sunday drive in a blizzard. The dedicated volunteers moved this fun day to now make it a spring event. What better way to celebrate warmer days than to enjoy a delicious dinner with good friends?!
Roast beef, ham, real mashed potatoes and gravy top the menu with green beans, fruit, coleslaw, and delicious homemade rolls; with assorted desserts rounding out the meal. Bingo will be played all day on the stage. The raffle drawing for twenty five prizes will begin at 4 o’clock. This year you can have several chances to win $100, $75, and $50 cash prizes. You can buy a raffle ticket from any St. Mary’s/Holy Cross parishioner.
In 1997 Holy Cross became a chapel taken care of by the priest of St. Mary’s parish in Cottonwood. Today, the beautiful historic building is used for weddings and funerals and special occasions throughout the year. We have been very blessed to have Sunday evening Mass at 7:00 throughout the summers; starting Memorial Day and running through Labor Day. Keuterville residents and other parishioners from across the Camas Prairie enjoy using the old church.
Many of the original families settling Keuterville were German families who still had relatives back in the homeland. Because of this, no other church in the area has the ornate, antique altars which were made in Germany and shipped to Idaho. Sitting in the pews gives you a sense of connecting to the past, when previous generations valued quality craftsmanship.
Since Holy Cross is now a chapel, this annual fundraiser helps fund the maintenance of this treasured piece of history. With spring making its way to our prairie, get out of the house Sunday, March 20th and take a drive to Keuterville.  The scenery is fantastic, the food is homemade, and the friendly conversations can’t be beat.  Hope to see you there!
