Pirates lose at Pomeroy
The Prairie Pirates lost a slugfest at Pomeroy Thursday, March 31, 14-18, in their final game before Spring Break.
Prairie had lead of 5-4, 8-4, and 14-8 in the game but Pomeroy scored 10 runs in their final 2 innings to pull out the win.
Chase Kaschmitter was Prairie’s starting pitcher and again had a rocky start as he gave up 4 runs in the first inning. He then pitched 2 scoreless frames.
Prairie took their first lead in the third inning when they scored 5 runs.
Prairie extended the lead with 3 runs in the top of the fourth but Pomeroy answered with 4 runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 8-8.
Prairie scored 6 in the top of the fifth for a 14-8 lead but Pomeroy cut the lead to 2 in the bottom of the fifth with 4 runs. Then after shutting Prairie out in the sixth, Pomeroy took the lead for good with 6 in the bottom of the sixth.
Prairie was unable to score in the top of the seventh and the game ended.
Prairie had 12 hits led by Reece Shears, in his first game of the season, with a single, double and homer. Chase Kaschmitter and Noah Behler each had a double and a single. Eli Hinds had 2 singles. Colton McElroy had a double  and Cody Kaschmitter and Trenton Lorentz each had a single.
Chase Kaschmitter started on the mound and was relieve by Behler in the fourth inning. Colton McElroy took over in the sixth inning.
Prairie is now 4-3 on the season. They don’t play again until next Tuesday, April 12, when they play their first home games with a doubleheader against Nezperce.
