Pirates win 1 of 4
The Prairie baseball team managed to win just 1 of their 4 games this past week. On Wednesday, April 27 they lost 2-10 at Kamiah. On Thursday, April 28, the lost 10-11 at Kendrick. Finally on Saturday, April 30, they split a doubleheader against Potlatch at Lewiston. They won the first game 16-4 and lost the second 1-17.
At Kamiah
The home game originally scheduled against Kamiah on Tuesday, April 26, wound up being moved to Kamiah on Wednesday, April 27 due to field conditions at Cottonwood. Cody Kaschmitter pitched several innings at Kamiah.
Chase Kaschmitter started on the mound for the Pirates and gave up a first inning run to Kamiah on 2 walks and a hit.
Prairie got a 1-out single by Cody Kaschmitter in the bottom of the inning but he wound up stranded at second after a steal.
Noah Behler took over on the mound in the second inning as Prairie tried to preserve their pitching staff with 3 more games coming over the next 3 days. Behler gave up a leadoff hit and after 2 outs, that runner scored to make it 0-2/
It looked like Prairie might score in the bottom of the second. Behler drew a 1-out walk and after a second out, Alex McElroy doubled to right center. Coach Kyle Westhoff sent Behler, who attempted to score from first but Kamiah made a great relay from center to short to home to make the out.
Behler gave up a double and a walk in the second inning which led to a run. After a second run scored on a groundout and a hit batsman, Behler was pulled with a 2-2 count with Cody Kaschmitter going to the mound. After a walk, Cody got out of the inning with a strikeout.
3 walks, a double and single led to 2 more runs for Kamiah in the fourth inning as they took a 0-6 lead.
Prairie meanwhile went down in order in both the third and fourth innings.
Kamiah got just a 2-out walk in the fifth inning against Cody Kaschmitter and in the bottom of the inning Prairie finally got on the scoreboard.
Jake Quintal hit a 1-out single to right. He moved to second on a groundout to first by Alex McElroy. Trenton Lorentz then single to center to score Quintal. Lorentz moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on Reese Shears’ single to right to make it 2-6.
That was it for the Pirates though as they had just 1 baserunner in the final 2 innings, Quintal, who was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the 7th.
Kamiah added 4 more runs in the top of the seventh. Cody Kaschmitter hit a batter then got a strikeout before Shears took over on the mound. Shears gave up a walk then got an out before giving up 3 straight hits that led to 4 runs.
Prairie had 5 hits in the game. Alex McElroy had a double while Shears, Cody Kaschmitter, Quintal and Lorentz each had a single. Shears and Lorentz each had an RBI.
Chase Kaschmitter gave up 1 run on 1 hit and 2 walks in 1 inning. Behler gave up 3 runs on 3 hits with 1 walk, 1 hit batsman and 3 strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings. Cody Kaschmitter gave up 3 runs on 2 hits with 5 walks, a hit batsman and 7 strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings. Shears gave up 3 run son 3 hits with 1 walk and 1 strikeout in 2/3 of an inning.

At Kendrick
The scheduled home game against Kendrick got moved to Kendrick due to field conditions in Cottonwood.
Chase Kaschmitter again started on the mound for the Pirates and pitched the first 3 innings allowing Kendrick to take a 0-3 lead.
Prairie scored twice in the bottom of the third.
Behler took over on the mound in the fourth inning and pitched into the seventh.
Kendrick scored 1 in the fourth but Prairie answered with 1. In the fifth Kendrick added another run but Prairie took their first lead in the bottom of the inning with 4 runs to make it 7-5 after 5 innings.
Kendrick scored 2 in the sixth to tie the game but Prairie took back the lead with 1 in the bottom of the inning giving them an 8-7 lead going into the 7th.
Reece Shears pitched in the 7th and gave up the go-ahead runs as Kendrick plated 4 in the inning for an 8-11 lead.
In the bottom of the inning Prairie was able to push across 2 runs to get within 1 before Kendrick got the final out.
Prairie outhit the Tigers 13-10. Eli Hinds and a double and 2 singles to lead the Pirates. Cody Kaschmitter had 3 singles. Lorentz had 2 singles. Chase Kaschmitter had a double and Behler, Quintal, Carter Shears and Colton McElroy each had a single.

Game 1 vs. Potlatch
Prairie picked a win in the first game of their doubleheader against Potlatch.
For the third straight game Chase Kaschmitter started on the mound and pitched 2 innings giving up 1 run.
Potlatch scored in the bottom of the first but Prairie answered with 3 in the second and 7 in the third for a 10-1 lead.
Kaschmitter gave up another run in the third and then was relieved by Behler with 2 outs. Behler got out of the inning with no further damage.
Prairie added a run in the fourth and Potlatch scored 2 in the bottom of the fourth.
The Pirates added 5 runs in the fifth and then held Potlatch scoreless in the bottom of the inning to win the game on the 10-run mercy rule.
Kaschmitter allowed 2 runs on 1 hit with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts.
Behler allowed 2 runs on  4 hits with no walks and 2 strikeouts.
Prairie had 12 hits in the game. Behler had a double and a single and an RBI. Colton McElroy had 2 singles and 2 RBI. Lorentz had 2 singles and an RBI. Reece Shears had a triple and an RBI. Quintal had a double and 2 RBI. Chase Kaschmitter had a double and an RBI. Carter Shears had a single and 2 RBI. Hinds had a single and an RBI. Cody Kaschmitter had a single.

Game 2 vs. Potlatch
Potlatch dominated the Pirates in the second game of the doubleheader.
Behler started on the mound and gave up 6 runs in 2 innings. Cody Kaschmitter came on in the third and couldn’t get anyone out while giving up 5 runs. Alex McElroy finished up the third inning and allowed 6 more runs as Potlatch won the game in 3 innings on the 15-run mercy rule, 1-17.
Prairie’s lone run came in the bottom of the second inning as they mustered just 3 hits. Carter Shears doubled in the only run while Chase Kaschmitter and Colton McElroy each had 1 hit.
Behler gave up 6 runs on 6 hits with 1 hit batsman and 1 strikeout.
Cody Kaschmitter faced 5 batters walking 2 and hitting 3 with all 5 scoring.
Alex McElroy gave up 3 hits with 2 walks, 1 hit batsman and 1 strikeout.
Prairie is now 8-10 overall and 7-7 in league play. They have 2 league games left, 1each against C.V. and Lapwai. They are currently 6th in league and have at least a play-in game clinched as 7th place Potlatch cannot catch them. It would appear they will have to travel next Tuesday, May 10 for a District play-in game. The two play-in game winners clinch a trip to State as 4 teams from District will make it to State this year.
