Living History - Winifred Rhoades Emmanuel
Jasper is a 120-lb labradoodle that enjoys dressing up to help tell Living History stories.  His parents are Jerry & Rosalie (Wassmuth) Jessup.
My name is Winifred Rhoades Emmanuel and I was born in Denver, Idaho.  I was a child prodigy, learning to play the piano by ear by age 7 and by age 15, I was playing for fun with local bands like the Kopczynski Orchestra.  I was also playing the organ professionally for silent movies in theaters at Cottonwood, Grangeville and Lewiston.  By age 17, I joined the Pantages Theater circuit, performing in Spokane, Seattle and Tacoma and my fingers were insured for $1 million dollars.
I met Sam Emmanuel when I appeared on a radio program he hosted. We married in 1947, and eventually lived in a 29-room mansion in Seattle.  Sam was born in Turkey, immigrated to America at age 5, and was a successful businessman and avid Asian art collector.
When I passed at age 70, Sam hired an architect and decorator and had a gallery built in my honor at the Historical Museum at St. Gertrude.  They also have some of Sam's Asian treasures.  That gallery now hosts many artifacts from the fascinating people of Idaho County.
