Pirates lose twice
The Prairie Pirates lost a pair of home league games last week as they fell to Lapwai 38-82 on Thursday, Dec. 8, and to Troy 20-36 on Saturday, Dec. 10.
Vs. Lapwai
Prairie trailed 11-19 at the end of the first quarter against Lapwai and 24-49 by halftime.
Lapwai extended the lead to 33-69 after 3 quarters.
Lapwai’s Kase Wynott and Terrell Ellenwood-Jones combined for 62 points with Wynott scoring 41 of those.
Lee Forsmann led the Pirates in scoring with 13 points. Shane Hanson scored 8, Trenton Lorentz scored 7, Matthew Wemhoff scored 5, Noah Behler scored 3 and Riley Shears scored 2.
Prairie won the JV game 46-41 and also won the C game, no score available.

Vs. Troy
The Pirates struggled to get any offense going against Troy as they weren’t able to score more than 6 points in any quarter. Lee Forsmann drives into the lane against Troy.
The Pirates took the first lead of the game when Forsmann was fouled on a putback and converted a 3-point play for a 3-0 lead.
Troy then scored the next 7 points to take the lead for good. Noah Behler broke the dry spell with a one-hander in the lane to cut the deficit to 5-7 but Troy closed out the first quarter with a 3-pointer for a 5-10 lead.
Forsmann scored a pair of baskets in the second quarter as Prairie stayed within 3 at 9-12. A Troy 3-pointer was answered by a free throw by Hanson but Troy added a free throw for a 10-16 halftime lead.
Forsmann had 7 of Prairie’s 10 first half points but was taken out of the offense in the second half as Troy sagged their defense to him anytime he touched the ball. He was held scoreless until hitting 3 of 4 free throws in the final 3 minutes.
Troy scored first in the second half then Wemhoff scored for the Pirates. Prairie didn’t score against until over 5 minutes later when Behler scored from the baseline. In between Troy scored 8 straight points. The Trojans led 14-28 after 3 quarters.
Troy scored the first 4 points of the fourth quarter before Behler scored a free throw. After another Troy basket Forsmann scored a free throw. Forsmann answered another Troy basket with 2 free throws then Shears closed out the game’s scoring with a basket with 28 seconds left.
Forsmann led the Pirates in scoring with 10 points. Behler scored 5. Wemhoff and Shears scored 2 each and Hanson scored 1.
Prairie had a 39-366 edge on the boards led by Forsmann who had 14 rebounds.
Hanson had 3 steals while Wemhoff had 2. Bennie Elven and Forsmann each had 1 assist.
Prairie was 7 for 42 from the field, 17%, and 6 for 15 at the line, 40%. Troy was 12 for 42 from the field, 28%, and 4 for 11 at the line, 36%.
Prairie is now 1-3 on the season and 0-2 in league play.
Prairie won the JV game 47-28.
Troy scored the first 2 points then Prairie scored 10 straight to take the lead for good. Phil Schwartz tied it with a basket then Logan Weber scored the go-ahead basket. Schwartz and Weber each added a basket and Levi Gehring closed out the 10-0 run with a basket.
Troy scored a free throw to make it 10-3 at the end of the quarter.
Troy scored to open the second quarter but Gehring answered with a basket. After 3 Troy free throws, Nate Forsmann scored a pair of baskets to make it 16-8.
Troy got back within 4 at 18-14 then the Pirates put together a 10-2 run to take a 28-16 lead. Weber started the run with a basket and Schwartz followed. After Weber scored again, Forsmann made a free throw to make it 25-14. After a Troy basket, Kaden Duclos converted a 3-point play to make it 28-16.
Troy hit a 3-pointer late to make it 28-19 at the half.
Troy scored the first 4 points of the second half to get within 5 but Prairie then scored 13 straight points. They closed the third quarter with a 9-0 run to make it 37-23, then scored the first 4 of the fourth quarter for a 41-23 lead. Briggs Rambo scored 7 of those 13 points on 3 baskets and a free throw. Schwartz, Forsmann and Weber each had a basket in that run.
Troy finally broke it with 2 free throws  but Prairie then scored 6 more points to make it a 19-2 run overall. Forsmann and Jackson Enneking each scored a basket and Levi McElroy made 2 free throws. Troy then scored the final 3 points of the game.
Forsmann scored 11 to lead the JV team with Weber adding 10 points. Schwartz scored 8, Rambo 7, Gehring 3, Duclose 3 and Enneking and McElroy 2 each.
Prairie had a 38-31 rebounding edge led by Forsmann whoe had 10 rebounds. Gehring added 8.
Rambo had 5 steals while Gehring, Schwartz and Forsmann had 4 each. Gehring and Schwartz each had 3 assists.
The JV’s were 21 for 54 from the field, 39%, and 5 for 9 at the line, 56%. Troy was 10 for 41 from the field, 24%, and 7 for 11 at the line, 64%.
Prairie lost the C game 25-32.
