Lady Pirates start season 2-0
The
Prairie Lady Pirates started off their season with a pair of lopsided
wins as they won 79-23 at Orofino on Tuesday, Nov. 19, and then
defeated Potlatch 69-14 in their home opener Friday, Nov. 22.

At Orofino Prairie jumped out to a 14-0 lead. Lexi
Schumacher opened the game by hitting a 3. Sage elven then scored 3
straight baskets. Kylie Schumacher converted a 3-point play and Lexi Schumacher added a lay-up after a steal by Hailey Hanson to make it 14-0.
Orofino finally got on the board at the 4:57 mark of the quarter. Elven and Lexi Schumacher each scored again to make it 18-2. After a basket by Orofino, Elven scored on a putback and Kylie Schumacher scored 2 baskets to make it 24-4. After another Orofino basket, Prairie closed out the first quarter with an 8-0 run. Elven scored the first 4 then Ellie Nuxoll scored a putback. Kylie Schumacher closed out the quarter with a pair of free throws to make it 32-6. Kylie opened the second quarter with a basket then Orofino put their first back-to-back scores together to make it 34-10. Prairie then scored 7 straight on a basket by Elven and a basket and 3-point play by Lexi Schumacher. Orofino then scored 5 straight points before Elven closed out the half with a lay-up to make it 43-15 at the break. Prairie outscored Orofino 29-4 in the third quarter. They opened the second half with a 6-0 run with Elven scoring 2 baskets and Kylie Schumacher 2 free throws. After an Orofino basket Prairie scored 10 straight points. Elven had 2 baskets and 2 free throws and Kylie Schumacher scored 2 baskets. After another Orofino score, Prairie closed out the third quarter with a 13-0 run. Lexi Schumacher scored a lay-up. Kylie Schumacher scored 2 baskets. Mia Anderson stole the ball and scored a lay-up. Kylie Schumacher added a lay-up and Hanson closed out the quarter with a 3-pointer. That made it 72-19 after 3 quarters. The fourth quarter was played with a running clock. Nadia Cash opened the quarter with a basket then Orofino scored 4 straight points. Prairie then closed out the game with a 5 straight points. Cash scored a free throw and Kylie Schumacher and Erica Schlader each added a basket. Elven led all scorers with 28 points as she made 13 of 16 shots and was 2 for 2 at the line. Kylie Schumacher added 25 points as she was 10 for 18 from the field and 5 for 5 at the line. Lexi Schumacher scored 14. Hanson and Cash scored 3 each and Nuxoll, Schlader and Anderson scored 2 each. Elven had a double-double as she had 11 rebounds to lead Prairie to a 33-22 edge on the boards. Kylie Schumacher approached triple-double status as she had 8 rebounds and 9 steals. Sydney Shears added 7 steals and Hanson had 4 assists. Elven and Kylie Schumacher each had 3 assists. Prairie was 34 for 66 from the field, 52%, and 9 for 14 at the line, 64%. Orofino was 11 for 26 from the field, 42%, and 1 for 4 at the line, 25%. The JV game was just as lopsided as the varsity as Prairie won 43-13. Prairie led 17-0 at the end of the first quarter and were up 23-0 in the second before Orofino got on the scoreboard. Anderson scored 6 points in the opening quarter while Beka Schumacher scored 5 and Reagan Brannan scored 4. Schlader scored the other 2 points. Orofino got on the scoreboard with a free throw at the 5:39 mark in the second quarter and added another free throw at the 2:58 mark. Those were their only points of the first half. Schumacher added 8 points in the second quarter while Brannan, Mikayla Rowland and Blake Uhlenkott each scored 2 as Prairie led 30-2 at the half. Prairie scored the first 9 points of the second half before Orofino finally scored a basket as they hit a 3-pointer at the 3:20 mark of the third quarter. Anderson opened the second half scoring wit a basket. Schumacher added a putback. Schlader scored on a drive and then on a pitchback and Schumacher added a free throw to make it 39-2. After the Orofino 3, Anderson and Schlader each scored a baskets to make it 43-5. Orofino scored again to make it 43-7 after 3 quarters. The fourth quarter was played under a running clock and Orofino outscored Prairie 0-6 in the final period. Schumacher had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead both categories. Anderson added 10 points while Schlader scored 8, Brannan 6 and Rowland and Uhlenkott 2 each. Prairie had a 48-38 advantage on the boards. Brannan added 7 rebounds and Rowland 6. Kenly Forsmann had 9 steals while Brannan had 8 and Anderson 7. Brannan led in assists with 2. The JVs were 20 for 77 from the field, 26%, and 3 for 11 at the line, 27%. In the home opener against Potlatch it took the Loggers over 10 minutes to get on the scoreboard as Prairie took a 33-0 lead.
Prairie
outscored Potlatch 27-0 in the first quarter as they forced 14
turnovers and held the Loggers to 0 for 7 from the field. Prairie
meanwhile got 12 points from Elven, who was 6 for 7 from the field and
14 from Lexi Schumacher who started 1 for 6 then hit 6 of the next 7
shots. Kylie Schumacher added a free throw.
In the second quarter Lexi scored 2 more baskets and Aubree Rehder added a putback as Prairie made it 33-0. Potlatch finally scored a basket but Anderson answered with a basket. After another Logger basket, Lexi Schumacher scored a lay-up and a putback to make it 39-4. After another Potlatch basket, Kylie Schumacher scored after making a steal and driving to the basket and then stole the ball again which led to a lay-up by Lexi Schumacher. Potlatch scored again then Prairie closed out the half with a 7-0 run to take at 50-8 lead at the break. Kylie Schumacher scored a putback. Schlader scored after stealing the ball. Nuxoll scored a free throw and then scored the final points of the half on a lay-up. Prairie opened the second half with an 11-0 run. Lexi Schumacher scored 6 of those while Hanson added a 3-pointer and Elven scored a lay-up. Potlatch scored a pair of baskets then Kadence Kalmbach scored her first ever varsity points on a 3-pointer in the final seconds of the third quarter. The fourth quarter was played with a running clock. Prairie scored the first 5 points of the final period before Potlatch scored the final basket of the game. Kylie Schumacher and Elven each scored a basket and Nuxoll scored a free throw. Lexi Schumacher led all scorers with 30 points, 24 in the first half. Elven added 16 points while Kylie Schumacher scored 7, Nuxoll 4, Hanson and Kalmbach 3 each and Rehder, Anderson and Schlader 2 each. Prairie had a 31-25 rebounding edge led by Kylie Schumacher who had 8 boards. Lexi Schumacher added 6. Kylie Schumacher had 8 steals and 5 assists while Lexi Schumacher had 6 steals and 3 assists. Anderson and Shears had 4 steals each and Hanson had 3 assists. Prairie was 32 for 65 from the field, 49%, and 3 for 7 at the line, 38%. Potlatch was 7 for 28 from the field, 25%, and 0 for 2 at the line. Prairie is now 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in league play. The JV team played Nezperce and lost a streaky game 32-33. Nezperce scored first but Prairie took their first lead after a free throw by Anderson and a basket by Alli Rambo. Nezperce took back the lead but Prairie then scored 7 straight. Schlader scored a lay-up, Anderson sank a 3 and Uhlenkott scored a lay-up to make it 10-4. A free throw by Anderson and a lay-up by Rambo gave Prairie a 13-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. A 3 by Anderson and a free by Rambo made it 17-8 with 7:10 left in the half. Prairie then went ice-cold as Nezperce finished the half on a 0-10 run and started the second half 0-6 to make it a 16 point scoring run. Prairie finally scored again when Anderson made a free throw at the 1:15 mark of the third quarter after nearly 14 minutes without scoring. Schumacher scored a free throws to make it 19-24. After a Nezperce free throw, Schumacher scored on an inbounds play at the buzzer to make it 21-25. A basket and a free throw by Schumacher and 2 free throws by Schlader gave Prairie their first lead since early in the second quarter at 27-25. Nezperce tied it then Uhlenkott scored a basket and then drove to the hoop for another basket and converted a 3-point play when she got fouled for a 32-27 lead. Nezperce then came back with 6 straight points to take the lead with 1:14 left. Prairie had their chances as they missed 4 free throws in the final minutes. Neither team scored in the final minute as Nezperce held on for a 1-point win. Anderson scored 9 to lead the team with Schumacher and Uhlenkott each scoring 7. Rambo scored 5 and Schlader scored 4. Nezperce had a 37-47 edge on the boards. Rambo and Rowland each had 9 rebounds to lead Prairie. Anderson had 4 steals while Rambo, Schumacher and Schlader each had 3. Schumacher had 2 assists to lead the team. Prairie was 11 for 41 from the field, 27%, and 8 for 25 at the line, 32%. Nezperce was 14 for 57 from the field, 25%, and 4 for 10 at the line, 40%.
