The Prairie Pirates won their fourth straight game as they defeated Kamiah 65-32 at Cottonwood Thursday, Dec. 18. Kamiah scored first in the game but Prairie then scored the next 6 to take the lead for good. Patrick Schlader tied it with a lay-up and then gave Prairie the lead after stealing the ball and driving for a lay-up. He then picked up an assist on a lay-up by Nate Forsmann to make it 6-2. After a Kamiah basket, Riley Shears sank 2 free throws. After another Kamiah basket, Prairie went on a 10-0 run. Phil Schwartz made two 3’s in the run while Schlader scored on a tip-in and a steal by Forsmann led to a lay-up by Chase VonBargen that made it 18-6. Kamiah made 2 free throws then Forsmann closed out the first quarter with a 3-point play to make it 21-8. The Pirates continued to build on their lead in the second quarter. After a 3 by Kamiah, Schlader and Shears each scored a basket to make it 25-11. Kamiah outscored Prairie 2-4 as Forsmann scored for Prairie to make it 27-15. Prairie then scored 7 straight to take a 34-15 lead. Shears started it with a basket. Schlader stole the ball and converted a 3-point play and Forsmann scored after a steal by Levi Gehring. Kamiah outscored Prairie the rest of the half 4-5 to make it 38-20 at the break. Gehring scored after a steal and Shears closed out the half with a basket. Prairie held the lead at around 20 points throughout the third quarter as Prairie outscored Kamiah just 11-10 in the period. Schlader scored a basket and 2 free throws while Forsmann scored a basket and 1 free throw. Schwartz scored a lay-up and Shears added 2 free throws. The Pirates then pulled away from the Kubs in the fourth quarter, scoring 16 straight points and invoking the running clock mercy rule with 4:15 to play. Schlader started the run with a 3-point play. He then scored a putback. Gehring scored a lay-up. Schwartz sank a free throw on either a flagrant or intentional foul. Schlader scored after a steal. Forsmann and Kade Quintal each scored a putback and Jackson Enneking closed out the run by scoring after a steal. Kamiah finally scored in the quarter with 34 seconds left on 2 free throws. Schlader scored 22 points and had 15 rebounds to lead the team in both categories. Forsmann added 14 points while Shears scored 10. Schwartz added 9, Gehring 4 and VonBargen, Quintal and Enneking each had 2. Prairie had a 36-24 advantage on the boards. Schlader also led in steals with 3 while Shears had 4 assists. Prairie was 26 for 54 from the field, 48%, and 11 for 15 at the line, 73%. Kamiah was 10 for 42 from the field, 24%, and 11 for 14 at the line, 79%. Prairie goes into the winter break with a record of 4-1 overall and 2-0 in league play. The JV team won their game 66-34.
