Lady Pirates win twice
The Prairie Lady Pirates won a pair of
league games this past week. On Tuesday, Dec. 16 they hosted Kamiah and
won 42-29. On Monday, Dec. 20 they traveled to Potlatch and won 67-23.
Vs. Kamiah Prairie jumped out toa 7-0
lead against the Kubs. Sage Elven started things with a 3 from the
corner off an inbounds feed from Hailey Hanson.![]() Sydney Shears and Kylie Schumacher each followed with a basket. Kamiah got on the board with a 3 from freshman Rainbow Moses. Prairie then scored another 7 straight points. Kylie Schumacher, Elven and Beka Schumacher each scored a basket and Hanson scored a free throw to make it 14-3. Kamiah scored to close out the first quarter with prairie up 14-5. Kamiah opened a low-scoring second quarter with a basket but Prairie followed with a lay-up by Elven and a putback by Kylie Schumacher to make it 18-7. Kamiah’s Emma Krogh scored a basket and a free throw then Beka Schumacher closed out the half with a putback in the final seconds. Krogh scored to open the second half then Prairie scored 6 straight. Kylie Schumacher scored 2 baskets bracketing a turn-around shot by Elven to make it 26-12. Prairie answered a Kamiah free throw with a putback by Kylie Schumacher. Kamiah then went on a 2-10 run to get back within single digits at 30-23. Beka Schumacher’s 2 free throws were Prairie’s only points in that run. Beka added a baskets and Kamiah had 2 free throws to make it 32-25 heading into the fourth quarter. Elven opened the fourth quarter with a putback and Kamiah responded with a 3 to get within 6 at 34-28. Prairie then scored 6 straight as they held Kamiah scoreless for over 5 minutes. Beka Schumacher scored a couple of turn-around shots in the lane and Kylie Schumacher added a lay-up to make it 40-28 with 3:48 left. Neither team scored until Krogh made a free throw with 2:16 left. That was Kamiah’s final point as Kylie Schumacher closed out the scoring with a lay-up with 31 seconds left. Kylie Schumacher had a double-double to lead the team with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Elven nearly had a double-double as well with 11 points and 9 rebounds. Beka Schumacher scored 12 while Shears scored 2 and Hanson 1. Prairie had a 43-29 advantage on the boards. Elven had 5 steals and 4 assists while Erica Schlader had 5 assists. Prairie was 19 for 57 from the field, 33%, and 3 for 4 at the line, 75%. Kamiah was 11 for 45 from the field, 24%, and 5 for 13 at the line, 38%. The JV team also won, as they beat the Grangeville JV 43-26. Prairie jumped out to a 17-1 lead by the end of the first quarter. Kennedy Riener scored the game’s first two baskets. Aubree Riener and Reagan Brannan each scored to make it 8-0. After a Grangeville free throw Tori Shears hit a 3 to kick off a 9-0 run. Brannan added a free throw and Tori Shears scored another basket. Alli Rambo closed out the quarter with a 3-point play. The second quarter was much more even as Prairie outscored Grangeville just 8-7. Tori Shears had a pair of baskets for Prairie while Zoey Behler and Audrey Warren each scored 1 baskets as Prairie led 25-8 at the half. Each team scored 10 points in the third quarter. Brannan had 2 baskets while Behler, Tori Shears and Rambo each had 1. Prairie led 35-18 after 3 quarters. Each team then scored 8 points in the fourth quarter as Prairie made their first quarter advantage stand up. Behler had a pair of baskets in the fourth while Faith Cash and Tori Shears each added a basket. Shears wound up as the leading scorer with 13 points. Behler scored 8 while Brannan scored 7. Rambo scored 5, Kennedy Riener 4 and Cash, Aubree Riener and Warren each scored 2. Prairie had a 45-24 advantage on the boards led by Brannan with 13. Behler and Tori Shears each had 9 rebounds. Brannan had 8 steals while Behler and Tori Shears had 5 each. Blake Uhlenkott had 3 assists. The JV’s were 20 for 63 from the field, 32%, and 2 for 7 at the line, 28%. Grangeville was 10 for 30 from the field, 33% and 5 for 13 at the line, 38%. The JV team also had a game on Monday, Dec. 15 at Orofino against their varsity and won 43-15. Orofino scored first with a free throw then Aubree Riener and Kennedy Riener each scored a basket for a 4-1 lead. Orofino then scored 4 straight to take a 4-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. Prairie dominated the second quarter as they scored the first 15 points of the period. Brannan scored a pair of baskets to give Prairie the lead for good. Rambo and Behler each scored a basket. Cash hit a 3. Behler and Uhlenkott each added a basket to make it 19-5. Orofino scored the final 4 of the half to make it 19-9 at the break. Orofino then scored the first 2 of second half only to see Prairie outscore them 13-2 the rest of the quarter. Behler had 8 of those 13 with Brannan and Lillian Rehder each scoring 2 and Rambo adding a free throw. Prairie led 32-13 after 3 quartrs. Prairie kept it up in the fourth scoring the first 8 points to complete a 19-0 scoring run. Rambo had 3 baskets in that fourth quarter run while Brannan and Kennedy Riener each added 2. Orofino finally scored in the quarter with 1:12 left as they made 2 free throws. Tori Shears then scored the final point of the game at the line. Behler led the team in scoring with 12 points. Rambo scored 9, Brannan 8, Kennedy Riener 4, Cash 3, Rehder, Aubree Riener and Uhlenkott 2 each and Shears 1. Prairie had a 45-23 advantage on the boards led by Rambo with 8. Rambo also led in steals with 5 with Rehder, Aubree Riener and Kennedy Riener adding 4 each. Cash had 5 assists. The JVs were 20 for 64 from the field, 31%, and 2 for 8 at the line, 25%. originally scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 17 but was moved to Monday,
Dec. 22 due to the power outages and school closures.Prairie started the game with a 9-0 run. Kylie Schumacher opened the scoring with a lay-up. Elven followed with 2 free throws. A steal by Elven led to a basket by Hanson and Elven closed out the run with a 3. Potlatch got on the board with 2 free throws and a basket to pull within 5 then Prairie finished the first quarter with a 13-3 run. Elven converted a 3-point play. Kylie Schumacher scored a putback and was fouled. She missed the ensuing free throw but Elven rebounded and scored. Potlatch hit a 3-pointer then Beka Schumacher scored a putback and Elven scored twice after stealing the ball for a 22-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Beka Schumacher started the second quarter with a lay-up. After a Potlatch basket Prairie went on a 12-0 run. Halee Rowland scored 2 baskets. Elven then scored twice and Kylie Schumacher scored twice to make it 36-9. Potlatch then scored 4 straight on 2 free throws and a lay-up. Kylie Schumacher scored the Potlatch scored the final 4 points of the half to make it 38-17 at the break. The third quarter started with a putback by Kylie Schumacher. Hanson followed with a 3. After a Potlatch basket, Prairie went on a 17 point scoring run. Elven started it with a lay-up. Hanson followed with a 3. Elven and Hanson each added a lay-up. Elven then added a lay-up and a 3 and Erica Schlader closed out the run with a 3. Potlatch broke the run with a free throw that ended the quarter. Prairie took a 60-20 lead into a running clock fourth. Only subs played the fourth quarter and still outscored Potlatch 7-3. Rowland started the scoring with a basket. Potlatch then hit a 3 for their only points of the quarter. Beka Schumacher scored on a bank shot, Faith Cash made a free throw and Rowland closed out the scoring with a putback. Elven wound up with a game high 27 points and added 9 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 assists. Kylie Schumacher scored 12 with a team-high 11 rebounds. Hanson scored 10 while Rowland scored 8, Beka Schumacher 6, Schlader 3 and Aubree Riener 1. Prairie outrebounded the Loggers 45-24. Beka Schumacher was also in double figures with 10 boards. Hanson and Shears each had 4 steals while Shears also had 4 assists. Prairie was 29 for 68 from the field, 43%, and 3 for 10 at the line, 30%. Potlatch was 7 for 33 from the field, 21%, and 6 for 10 at the line, 60%. Prairie is now 6-3 on the season and 3-1 in league play.
