Schacher takes first at Clearwater Classic
Avery Schacher repeated as a champion in her weight class at the
Clearwater Classic Wrestling Tournament held Jan. 16-17 at Lewiston High School. Schacher wrestled in the 170 lbs. bracket and won both of her matches to improve to 21-0 on the season. As the #1 seed in her bracket, she had byes to the semifinals. She then won by pin in 55 seconds over Ariana Turnbull of Sandpoint. In the championship match , she won by pin in 1:05 over Clover Tannehill of Newport. Also wrestling in the girls portion of the tournament, Mikayla Rowland was in the 145 lbs. open bracket on Friday. She lost her first match by pin in 45 seconds to Joelyn Hart of Clarkston. She then lost by pin in 1:57 to Oriana Lopez of Sandpoint. In the 145b pod on Saturday she lost by pin in 1:56 to Brooke Hayes of Kellogg. In her final match of the tournament she lost again by pin to Joelyn Hart of Clarkston in 1:10 to finish third in the pod. As a team Prairie placed 14th with 22 points. In the boys portion of the tournament, Zach Schumacher, Ashton Martin and Raymond Cross all lost in 2 matches in the main brackets while Carson Lockart won a medical forfeit but lost in the two matches he actually wrestled. Lockart and Schumacher did much better in the pods on Saturday. In the open 132 lbs. bracket on Friday Schumacher lost by pin in 1:31 to Owen Carvo of Ridgeline. He then lost by pin in 1:49 to Xander Jackson of Coeur d’Alene. In the 132d pod on Saturday he won by pin in 1:32 over Caleb DeLorenze of Priest River. He then won by pin over Leo Lawson of Pullman in 2:23. Finally he lost by pin in 54 seconds to Johnny Hamilton of Newport to finish second in the pod. In the 157 lbs. open bracket on Friday, Martin Lost by technical fall 2-17 in 2:22 to Milo Cord of Coeur d’Alene. He then lost by pin in 48 seconds to Pace Greenup of Ridgeline. He did not compete in the pods on Saturday. In the open 175 lbs. bracket on Friday, Lockart lost by pin in 1:03 to Yazir Arroyos Diaz of Pasco. He then won a medical forfeit over Tray-sin Bles of Lewiston. He then lost by pin in 1:56 to John Brownfield of Kellogg. In the 175a pod on Saturday he wound up finishing in first place. He won by pin in 47 seconds over Declan Ricker of Moscow. He then won by pin in 32 seconds over Colt Greene of Lapwai. Finally, he won by pin in 24 seconds over Matthew Seavey of Pullman. In the open 285 lbs. bracket on Friday. Cross lost by pin in 1:28 to Aden McCown of Clarkston. In the consolation bracket he lost by pin in 1:26 to Phillip Diaz of Coeur d’Alene. In the 285a pod bracket on Saturday he lost by pin in 31 seconds to Connor Horath of Davenport. Finally he lost by pin in 1:13 to Ayden Van Rossum of Coeur d’Alene. Prairie finished in 25th in the team scores with 4 points. ![]() For the second straight year, Avery Schacher, middle, won her weight class at the Clearwater Classic Wrestling Tournament at Lewiston High School.
