There was a good crowd sampling barbecue beef sandwiches, hamburgers and of course the raspberry shortcake at the Raspberry Festival Sunday. The main reason for the empty tables is that they were in the sun and it was already in the upper 80’s by 11 a.m. See story at left for many more photos. Click on the  photo for a larger view.

Ben Greene of Cottonwood is shown with his bike. He took part in a charity bike ride of 2,888 miles from Banff, Alberta, Canada to Antelope Wells, New Mexico. He started June 11 and it took him 28 days to complete the ride. He took pledges to raise money for a pair of charities. The first is the Omaha Community Bike Project, which helps teach youth in a troubled part of the city of Omaha, Neb., bicycle mechanics and bicycle maintenance. After so many hours of service they get to choose a bike of their own. The other is Georgia’s Closet in Sioux City, IA. This is based at a clinic he worked at there and helps provide winter clothing for children in need. He said the roughest stretch was a 187 mile stretch in New Mexico where there was no sign of civilization except for the highway he was on. Ben is the son of Dennis and Patti Greene of Cottonwood. For the second year in a row the Cottonwood Saddliers & Livestock 4-H club got together on June 30th and made Smile Kits for kids that go into the hospital at St. Mary’s. We made 24 bags (12 boy/12 girl). The smile kits have coloring books, crayons, stickers, toy cars, hair clips, toothbrushes, toothpaste and more. We are hoping they put a smile on the children that receive them while they are in the hospital. Our group would like to thank Mt. View Dentistry in Grangeville for the toothbrushes and toothpaste for the Smile Kits. Photos provided by Lisa Riener. Click on each photo for a larger view.

Several Cottonwood streets got sealcoated last week. Shown in the above two photos is work being done on Foster Street where it connects to the Hwy 95 Business Loop. Click on each photo for a larger view.
