Construction crews hired by the State Department of Transportation were in town this week putting handicapped ramps on the sidewalk corners along Business 95 that don’t already have them this week. Monday they were ripping out the sidewalk on the southeast and northeast corners at Front and King.

The Richard Jacobs Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4902 was presented with numerous National and State awards at their meeting on June 16th. The most prestigious was the “All-State Post” award from the VFW State Commander, Bob Jones. In order to be considered for this award the post must have achieved 100% membership + 5 new or reinstated members, participated in the Voice of Democracy, Patriot’s Pen, and Teacher of the Year programs, be current in all inspections and reports, be active in their community, and support the Buddy Poppy Program. Past Post Commander Ralph Stubbers and Quartermaster Rick W Johnson, both received citations and hats for their efforts in making the Post “All-State”. Dan Coburn (upper photo) was the guest reader at the summer reading program last Thursday.  The kids from the Center For Discovery joined in the fun.  We also painted cardboard surfboards ( lower photo).  Special thanks to Brock Heath for cutting the surfboards out for us.  43 kids participated in the program which will continue this Thursday.  We'll have a special presentation from the Spaulding Park folks and another fish craft. Idaho County Sheriff, Doug Giddings met with the Citizenship Washington Focus 4-H group (CWF) at the May meeting. Doug Giddings explained his role in the county and why the position is elected.  His position is to provide the leadership to uphold the law fairly and firmly in Idaho County. He explained that the motto for the department is Teamwork, Integrety, Excellence (TIE). He went on to explain that the main focus of his duties is a problem-solver within the county. New head Coach for the  Prairie Girls Basketball team, Lori Mader accepts a check from Chris  Kaschmitter in behalf of the Prairie Booster Club. The donation from the Club to the girls basketball program is for the 56 - 3 point shots made in the  2009 - 2010 basketball season.

Melody Frei took this picture of a visitor to their back yard this past Sunday morning on Hogan Street. (The former Jeff Uhling house). She said the moose tore up her backyard and ate all her orange petunias.
