Summit girls take 2nd at State; Summit boys win district opener

The Lady Pirates display the state championship banner and trophy after beating Troy 61-51 for the school’s 8th girls basketball title. Kneeling are MeShel Rad, Shelby VonBargen and Tanna Schlader. Despite the disappointment from losing the championship game, the Summit Lady Patriots still came away from the State Tournament with an impressive haul as they earned the State Academic Award for 1-A, Div. 2 with a 3.880 cumulative gpa and the school and fans received the Sportsmanship Award for the 2nd time in 4 trips to state. The Pacific Science Center  inspires a lifelong interest in science, math and technology by engaging diverse communities through interactive and innovative exhibits.  Prairie Elementary School children will experience this on March 26 when the exhibits will be displayed at our school.  Thank you to the Prairie Booster Club for their generous donation by sponsoring the exhibit.  Pictured Colleen Sonnen, Science Teacher; Lynn Guyer and Chris Kaschmitter, Booster Club members. Attendance winners at Prairie Elementary School for the month of January were Molly Schwartz, 5-6 winner,  Molly Johnson, 3-4 winner , Luke Stubbers, K-2 winner, and Steven Rambo, Perfect Attendance winner. Click on the photo for a larger view.

The Prairie High School Knowledge Bowl team will be at  Whitworth College in Spokane on February 25th  for the Regional Knowledge Bowl Competition.  Forty-four teams from throughout the Inland Northwest are registered for this event.  The winning team at this competition qualifies for an all expense paid trip to Washington D.C. to compete in the National Science Bowl.  Team members are:  Claire Whitley, Josh Roeper, Josh Zigler, Chris Hoene, Westin Crenshaw, Drew Cochran, Whitney Sonnen, Tucker Stefan, Heidi Holubetz, Jared Higgins, Justin Schmidt, Ashley Cannon, Sam Keating, Kyle Uhlenkott, Joseph Goldmeer, Beth Dinning and Emily McHugh.  The team is coached by Laurie Karel and assisted by Elizabeth McLeod.  Photo provided by Ryan Hasselstrom.  Click on the photo for a larger view.
