Secrest's team wins golf scramble
The St. Mary’s Hospital and Clinics Foundation 10th Annual Golf Scramble on July 26th  at the  Grangeville golf course hosted 11 teams and 43 golfers.  Dr. Jack Secrest’s team took first place with a combined score of 60, followed closely by a tie for second between Tom Jacobs’ team and Ed Eckert’s Team both with scores of 63. . . .

The arts and crafts and vendor booths were busy at the Raspberry Festival Sunday. For more photos and event results see article at left.

A crew of offenders from NICI helped tear out the old gym floor at the PHS gym. School superintendent Gary Blaz, who was also working hard taking the peeled up material to the dumpster said they hope to have the new floor in and painted by October 15. They will also paint the ceiling and fix the front entryway to avoid the snow problems.


Kelly Kortekaas, who illustrated childrens books, and her daughter Audrey joined us Thursday.  She showed some of her drawings that will be used in an upcoming book.  Kelly also explained the process of illustrating books from beginning to end.  The Summer Reading Program would like to thank the many business who donated ice-cream or prizes for the program.  They are:  Riener's Grocery, Cottonwood Foods, The Hangout, The Mini-Village, The Country Haus, The Coffee Mill, Arnzen Drug, Hoene Hardware, Wells Fargo Bank and US Bank.


An inmate crew from the North Idaho Correctional Institution restored the Centennial Garden across from St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cottonwood after it was damaged by vandals a few weeks ago.  They cleaned up the debris, arranged the display, and beautified this symbol of our community's pride. 

The Center For Discovery had the pleasure of taking these kids to swimming lessons in Grangeville.  What a terrific group of kids. Click on the photo for a larger view.


The local highway districts have been doing sealcoating projects in the past week. There were 17.3 miles of road done. Roads were done in the Fenn, Cottonwood, Ferdinand and Greencreek Highway Districts with help from Kidder-Harris Highway District of Kooskia. The projects were finished within 4 days.
